PSU wattage question

Haven_Alpha

650w should be enough, if you want to be extra catious 750.

If you're formally an engineer, avoid responsibility. That's what senior engineers get paid for.

Nah, a decent 550W unit is more than sufficient.

lol sorry, for some reason i read 1080 xD, indeed 550w is enough, 650 if you want headroom for upgrading to another gpu of sorts (like 1080)

Well, in 1 of his 3 other forums, he said he wanted to try stock cooler OCing

It won't add any more than 30-40W.

He can probably do fine with 450W

What PSU do I need for a Ryzen 7 2700 and a Gtx 1660?

Around 75w for the Ryzen 7 2700 (non X) and about 125w for the GTX 1660. Overclocking the Ryzen 2700 will probably put it around the 2700x power consumption which is about 100-110w or so. Even with CPU OC the system should be under 250w or so for the whole system.

Here's a review which tests the total system power draw with a Ryzen 2700 + GTX 1080 (much more power hungry card). Puts the total system draw at 275W under a gaming load. https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/amd-ryzen-7-2700-review,7.html

Most decent PSUs start at 450w or higher anyway so I would say 450w is where you should be looking.

If you would like us to recommend some specific units for you, what country are you in and what is your budget for the PSU?

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

a) why 1660 and not VEGA56??

B) 400-450, 550w RECOMMENDED but not just any, get a good quality one, look at the PSU Tierlist, Tier B or better.
