You will gain some FPS, generally in the 10-15 range which you really wont see beyond seeing a higher FPS number on screen if you have your FPS value showing.

Whole point of buying xxxxK cpus from intel is that they are unlocked and are overclockable.

i would OC, but only if you have decent thermal headroom and proper cooling.

compare the cost with 8700 (non-k) and h370/ b360 mobo, the difference is the amount you overpaid for not overclocking.

real difference... not any noticeable... more like felling bad mentally

The answer to should i overclock, would only be no if you were to undervolt. Overclocking has 0 negatives if you don't push really far. I was able to get my 8700k to 4.7ghz with an under volt which gives me better temps and less power consumption and of course, more performance.

8700K @ 5.2ghz 1.29V, 4x8 Rev.E @ 4040 13-20-20-39 1.7V.

Overclocking isnt free performance. You pay extra for the ability to overclock (k chip, z board). If you dont overclock, you are wasting performance and money.

In some games apps there will be not much gain.

In CPU bound tasks, you'll see gains.

In WoW, I saw at least a 15-20% gain in minimum FPS (cities, raids) from going from the stock all-core boost of 4.3ghz to 5.0ghz, since that game is largely CPU bound.

Other games like CSGO will benefit a lot from CPU overclocks.

CPU overclocks also help out a lot at high fps gaming, when you aren't you bound, such as aiming for 144/240fps.
