so, i'm thinking about buying new PC parts, which is why i made my account here, for help. My budget for this "upgrade kit" is $400. But, by the time i actually have the money, there will be better parts out and my parts will be obsolete.

So now my question is this: How do you think a $50-90 GPU would work in tandem with my Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and 3 GB of RAM?

Depends what games you are playing. Personally I think we are done with dual core at this point. Not saying it wont run games, but it just doesn't do what it did a couple years ago, ye feel? As far as a graphics card goes. I would save up and a get one that will be able to provide for you for the next couple years. Again these are my personal opinions...

Heck, I still game with a Q6600, but paired with a GTX 650Ti, it works great.

check out linus's rant on low end GPUs. he talks about thw sweet spot and how a 80$ gpu is just a rip off.

if you are reading this you are wasting valuable time and should maybe rethink your life choices.

It's fine for low end gaming with a low end GPU. People who have monitors that are 1440x900 or 720p, it's great. Those with 1080p, it's a painful experience. I would not build a new computer that has a dual core though with a low end gpu, just a waste of money these days for gaming.

I had an Athlon x2 6000+ with 3GB ram as well, and it served me well but I could not multi-task at all while gaming and games like battlefield 3 were unplayable. With next gen graphics being the thing for this year, you will be left behind so far with that set up. If all you're playing is MOBA's and Valve games, you're fine at sub hd.

Mobo: Z97 MSI Gaming 7 / CPU: i5-4690k@4.5GHz 1.23v / GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 / RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz@CL9 1.5v / PSU: Corsair CX500M / Case: NZXT 410 / Monitor: 1080p IPS Acer R240HY bidx

Thanks for all of the replies, but keep in mind, this is just to tide me over until i have the money for a decent build
i have about 30 games on steam that have middle/low requirements, and i've come to terms with low details. all i care for is 35 average on <insert graphics details here> for a game like DayZ/Arma 2 or CoD W@W with custom zombie's maps
I already get about 45 FPS on Low at 1024x768 on CS:GO on maps like italy and office with my GeForce 210 1GB, and i have a blast

but with the better looking games coming out/out now, i at least want something that gives me the ability to play at 1280x1024 at 35 FPS

I mean there isn't a problem with you putting together a budget build until you get high-end components. But just make sure its worth it, no point in spending money on something you wont be happy with. If you know your limits and know that you will be playing games such as counterstrike and what not, then yea by all means go for it.
