Locked to 100hz on 165hz monitor

zindan

Hello, I have a Acer predator xb271hu 165hz IPs g sync monitor and I can't get it to run at 165hz with my temporary old bad gpu.

the gpu is part of the AMD radeon hd 5700 series. It's called XFX Radeon HD 5750.
My monitor is connected via displayport and I don't have the option to set it to 165hz neither do I have the option to set it to 144hz.

Important note: I tried another monitor which had resolution 1920x1080 and 144hz capacity. The card could run 144hz without problems on that monitor.
Important note 2: I tried lowering the resolution from 2560x1440 to 1920x1080 on this one but still it wasn't able to go above 100hz. I couldnt find the 165hz in the refreshrate option menu.

I would be very greatful if someone could help me thank you very much!

Have you tried creating a custom 1080p 120hz resolution in the AMD control panel and seeing if that works?

I only see your reply if you @ me.

No, the control panel is very um... like stupid. I don't have a lot of options. Here is how it looks for me:

Don't really know what to do.

That is the video section, not display.

Is there any settings in the "display", which can create a custom resolution?

Are you using the "right" connector??(Sorry, I know you said the card's capable of driving that resolution and stuff, just making sure)

Make sure to tag and/or quote people so they get notified... :P:D

This. Make sure the interface you're using is capable of delivering 100+Hz.

Are you using DisplayPort? The card is ancient and it's maximum supported resolution is 2560x1600p at 60hz, it is likely just unable to support the full range the display has.

I'm surprised it even gets to 100 Hz. The HD 5750 was launched in 2009, while displayport 1.2 was only launched in 2010. Displayport 1.1 supposedly only goes up to 2560x1600 at 60 Hz (https://www.delock.de/infothek/DisplayPort/displayport_e.html). HDMI is even worse (took until 2013 to make a better version). Unfortunately, it seems like the only "solution" would be to leave it at 100 Hz until you get your better GPU (this was a temporary one, right?).

I would suggest selling the monitor and upgrading that gpu. Unless you have like $80-100 for a gtx 770 or used 1050ti. Monitors are really the last thing you should upgrade. Make sure you have capable hardware first lol.

G-Sync monitors don't support display scaling over DisplayPort, so lowering the resolution won't change anything as the image is still transmitted at 2560×1440 no matter what resolution you select.

This is likely just a graphics card limitation.

That sounds fair. I tried changing the res already and it didn't change anything so apparently those who suggested it didn't read the full post.

Ahh, that sucks. I am stuck with 100hz then until I get another gpu.
