Will installing a 970 evo M.2 SSD affect my GPU performance?

Since the Samsung 970 evo uses pci-e 3.0 4x lanes, does that mean it will take some of the GPU PCI-e lanes? I couldn't find any clear information in the manual.

Even if it does, will it make any difference in GPU performance?

Motherboard: Asus Prime Z370-P

GPU: MSI GTX 1070 ti

I don't think so (anybody quote me if I am wrong) NVMe drivers are handeld by the chipset which also has some lanes available

Not quite.  The M.2 NVMe port(s) are setup by the motherboard maker and how they decided so it's best to check the manual as your mileage may vary.  See: M2A vs M2M ports for example on boards from Gigabyte Z390 (and Z2xx) so sometimes they route using the CPU's PCIe lanes and sometimes the chipset-provided lanes.  It's a balance.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I accidentally bought the  970 evo 1TB instead of the plus version. Does the 970 evo plus' faster speeds matter when I'm just using it for gaming?! The 970 evo plus costs about 30 € extra here in the Netherlands

All that faster SSDs do is decrease load times.  When you open a game and see a loading screen the game is writing the information that you will need for that level/area to the computer/console's ram from the hard drive.  While playing the game, all data is read from ram so SSD speed has no influence at that point.

No not really, typically something like 0.1 seconds faster, so if you think that matters go ahead, but I would just stick with what you got.

Ok. Guess I'll stick with what I got since it won't make any difference in my case. Thanks for the reply.
