So, i'll start iff by saying the worst part of being a printer owner is the cost of printer ink. I found myself frequently going onto Facebook market place and buying a new printer with ink for less that the cost of ink. I did the same last week but during the set up and driver installation it prompted me to sign up for HP Instant Ink, a free/subscription service for ink delivered. They have several packages the lowest is Free! No hidden costs print up to 15 pages a month and when the ink runs out they send you a new one free of charge. You are probably thinking whats the catch? There is none, no upfront payment, they even send you the 1st set for free as soon as you sign up. Mine is currently in the mail and due to be delivered next week, so within 7 days I will have got a free official HP black and colour ink cartage. I just wanted to share this with people to make sure people get the most out of this.I will post the other plans below if you print more frequently.

(I am in the UK this may not be available in all countries)

So you keep the printer connected to the internet as you would normally for a Wireless printer and it reports the amount of pages to the service. The printer already keeps track of how many pages have been printed it just communicates this to HP as a meter reading (simular to how the Gas and Electric Meters work in the UK)

15 pages a month

I print way more than 15 a month. I print probs about 20-30 a week.

But I don't listen to the thing when it says that the ink has run out, a co-worker knows some trick to make the printer think the cartridge is new.

Buying HP oem cartridges for the full set is more then the cost of the printer, but I don't know what to do with the old one if I just buy another.

I'm guessing this is for specific HP printers and not all of them? (As in, the ones that are always connected to the internet)

Personally, I just got a used laser printer for dirt cheap, after an office upgraded their infrastructure. The price of toner for it on ebay is as low as $15... there's even some that are selling four whole toner cartridge for 33$... Considering I print more than 10 pages a month, this "free plan" wouldn't work out for me either.

Oh and I disagree, the worst part of being an Inkjet printer owner, is ink drying up after months of not being used... and then your new ink cartridge just spilling its content in your printer for no reason, ruining it and your desk below. So now your newly bought ink is useless, you need a new printer and you have a nice black mess on your desk that doesn't go away. Fuck inkjets.
