Cutting psu fan off

HypedKid

I decided to make a Minecraft server and I'm using my old pc, but its psu fan is loud af, it's just a cheap psu so it always spins at max speed.... And I'm thinking about simply CUTTING the wire off, maybe it won't overheat

Pc max uses 200w and psu is 300w

Also it is 80mm fan so maybe I can just replace it with more quiet one

Only do this if the risk of a PC overheating and catching fire is worth it to you.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Gotta agree with @fasauceome. Replace the PSU with a new, quieter (fanless?) model.

If you do open up the PSU then be very careful as some of the capacitors can hold a charge and give you a nasty shock even when it is unplugged.

Better to take the money you would have spent on a quieter fan and put that towards a new PSU with a quieter fan

i actually wouldn't do a fanless... it doesn't have fan noise... but does have electrical noise most people don't think of

I'd rather get a GOOD fan over no fan

Yes, but that won't happen to you:

Or do you want to read a story about you so badly in the paper??
Well, after either the house burned down or you died.

Or do you want a good, working PC without any damage done to you?

Swap my fan out and run the signal wire to my board. Quieter and monitor it. But it isn’t an old unit like that.

OMFG, how the heck can you say such things?!

Do you know how hot its getting inside the PSU?
Does your PSU even have OTP?!

A PSU isn't a GPU or CPU that just dies at 150°C Or so, the main components of it are specified for 175°C or more. And with slight shorts inside the transformer you can have real fun because the laquer melte and its getting hotter and hotter...

So... what does that have to do with what I said? My fans bearings went bad. So I replaced it with an identical fan that has 3 wires instead of two. So it’s the exact same as it was but I can actually see the rpms now.

So I can care less how hot it’s gets or what’s gonna happen to it.
