Nas drives

Currently looking at the ironwolf 3tb drives on Amazon but for some reason they are on preorder until December soo I found skyhawks for the same price would they be ok to use in my freenas/plex server?

Why such small disks? Id get fewer bigger disks. Look at the 8tb external hdds, like these https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Desktop-External-Drive-STGY8000400/dp/B07CQJBSQL/ref=sr_1_4?crid=PZFCQ5AN4N3C&keywords=8tb+external+hard+drive&qid=1557084790&s=gateway&sprefix=8tb+%2Caps%2C323&sr=8-4

 

There normal desktop drives inside, just take them out their case and use them.

On a budget and need at least 3 for zfs 1

FreeNAS doesn't use the IronWolf Health feature of the drive (which is IMO one of the most attractive features of IronWolf and is only available on 4TB models and above source:https://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/hdd/ironwolf/) so really any drive that is meant to be in an array would work with FreeNAS...it doesn't have to be IronWolf.

why not use mirrors? Id start at one 8tb, then add a second as a mirror, then add anouther pair or mirrors.
