Used PS3 slim or super slim with gamestop 2 year plan

My PS3 slim chech 3001a is failing right now( it sometimes wont power on out of standby). It does not have ylod and the fans still run 100 percent when tested.

Should I purchase a used slim or super slim and what model? I heard that the ps3 super slim has been skimped on a lot. Would the super slim last longer since it was manufactured later or are the internals really as bad as people think? Im aware that the disc player is manual and I agree that the console is ugly.

Priorities: 1st Longevity and reliability over digital and physical game use

PS3 still carry quite a bit of a price. There is a little bit more of an investment aspect because of this.

Personally, I'd go with a Super Slim, but another slim still seems like a better option then going with any of the fat systems.

Of course its not the most expensive thing you have seen, theres houses, cars, computers, Tvs, monitors,  etc. Theres also cheaper things too.

I'd argue that $100 wasted on a 10+ year old console that may have reliability issues isn't wise spending when there is alternatives out there that MAY have better reliability so you aren't just buying and junking one after the other. Its not exactly like these are Xbox360 where you can buy them for less than $40.

$100 ain't exactly chump change for something to play games on.

To OP, I'd personally get the Slim. Super Slim's gonna feel like a plasticky pile of shit, especially since you have a top slider disc drive rather than the one in the Slim.

Same here.

I am not a fan of the disk system or overall feel of the console, but it does work well. The slim has a different disc loading system, which seems like it is more prone to failure.

When reading games of disc, mine is somewhat loud though, but I don't have experience with any of the other PS3 systems to be able to verify if that is just my unit, the super slim models, or all PS3's.

I've owned every version of the PS3. The Slim is best overall, but is not as reliable. The Super Slim is super quiet, uses very little power and is reliable. It's not like you sit there fondling your system as you play games, so saving some money is imo worth it

Usually I say the late model Slims are the best to go with. And well, the CECH-3001x are pretty much the very last ones. I have both a 2501 and 3001 and my 3001 is still in perfect working order. The 2501 is also in perfect working order but required me to replace the fan in order to even stand using it. I've never had to do anything to the 3001 aside from occasional cleaning (I have replaced the hard drive with an SSD though).

My experience with Super Slims has primarily just been friends asking me to fix them. Usually it's just that they're clogged up and need to be cleaned. The Super Slims seem to be more prone to clogging up with dust than the Slims.

If you can afford it, I'd say buy two. Maybe one of each. I like having some redundancy. I have a few backup systems myself and I plan on buying some backup systems for the ones I only have one of right now.

Really?  My PS3 Super Slim is noisy as fuck when playing a game, but I bought mine used off eBay.

I've had experience with two Super Slims and both were silent. Maybe open yours up and see if you can get some dust out. It might also be an HDD that is no longer feeling too happy, or just a noisy disc drive.

The great thing is that the later gen PS3s use no power (Like 80w IIRC?). So there's no real reason for it to be loud unless it's 45C inside.  It's like cooling a Pentium laptop

Thank you everyone for your valuable opinions. I turned off deep color HDMI, and my system has been working again for the past 2 weeks.
