Posted April 20, 2019 These are Sony MHC-GN88D Hi-Fi 5.1 Component DVD System from 2007-08(I think) whoch came without subwoofer (another reason for my disappoinment). This unit was gifted to me by someone and I really enjoyed it all these years since 2010 that I first got it. The only problem, as you can see, is the space they occupy and therefore they look awkward in my drawing/guest room. I want a smaller form factor audio solution. So what should I replace them with (bookshelves, soundbar, or what). I don't do competitive gaming, just RPG titles and FIFA. Apart from that, I listen to electronic music like dubstep, riddim, trap, future bass, chillstep, future garage, ambient, dreamscape, synthwave, and similar genres. Then movies and tv shows are my equally liking. So If anyone has used these similar ancient Sony Hi-Fi systems you know how they sound and zi want an equivalent or better sound in terms of dynamic range, fidelity, soundstage, resolving power, and FR. I don't necessarily want studio sound as I don't produce music at all. I just want my music taste to sound as best as possible and you guys are gonna help me with that. I am in India and I wanna know the various offerings available here. My budget is flexible to some extent but I am expecting good speakers/soundbars with or without subwoofer within 10-30k INR range. I also bought a new VU Premium 43-OA TV for my living room (pictures attached) and suggest me an audio solution that'll suit my tv audio-visual experience as well. Thanks in adv. Posted April 20, 2019 Author Here's my TV. Was using Creative SBS A300 with it currently and will compromise on these for my pc for the time being. They are slightly faulty and produce a shrieking sound at higher volumes and the bass is terrible.I want that 'oomphf' facto, big punch and room filling bass which is clean and accurate (subwoofers welcomed). Here's a better look at my MHC-GN88D (won't be selling as of now and will be keeping it as a collector's item): A better look at my TV
 Posted April 20, 2019 This system is terrible if you have heard quality audio. I would suggest searching around for a good receiver by Marantz or Denon and find a nice set of Denon or Marantz speakers, being fair there are other options such as Onkyo and a few others. I found a pair of SC-F103 speakers and a DENON AVR 1906, total £85 and it's an amazing setup. I have the Sony MHC-GT444 before this and this absolutely decimates it in every category. Each speaker weighs more than the Sony system altogether. Picture.. My TV looks ridiculous next to this setup. https://imgur.com/a/WIMiDA0
 So about 330 pounds.. hm, if you can get your hands on audioengine a5+ they should be very good. then you can add a sub later for more "oomph" if you want. LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile. Main speaker setup is now; Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870 (Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
 Never got time to do so but I'll soon develop this hobby once I become an earning guy. Okay, back to your awesome suggestions. I really like Denon and Marantz as they listen to the budget-oriented community yet still manage to deliver good performance. What speakers and amp should I look for here in India? I don't think there is much foreign branded stuff available here.

Ahh, another great option for me . How much low-end can they deliver? My MHC-GN88D literally shakes my entire house at 50% volume but except their that heart-thumping bass comprising mostly of 55-150 Hz, they don't do well. Vocals are inaudible if I don't drag the 60Hz knob down to -4 to -6dB in Realtek. Mids are very muffled at all volumes. But the surround is great in defense to them. Soundstage is total trash when it comes to instrument separation and spacing. I mean for general listening sessions with 60Hz turned down in all devices' EQ, they won't disappoint an average human but to me after living close to 'em all these years, I'm actually fed up of them yet respect them a lot (cuz they're a gifted possession). Thanks bud for recommending an awesome bookshelf speaker but I have to check the best possible price for it here or check if anyone's selling other good condition Audioengines, ELACs, and Edifiers. For convenience i would go with powered, but for future upgradibility i would go with seperate amps and speakers, so you could upgrade the amp(s) then get new speakers, then get a preamp or tube buffer etc. LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile. To say the least these amps deliver their power is most likely a big underestimation. I do wonder if Denon underrates them to ensure quality, i have been watching a guy who benchmarks car audio amplifiers and it seems that higher quality grade amps definitely deliver more, some times mind blowing more than rated power. AVR 1906 guts... it's pure porn.
