2 gamers 1 cpu

Hi everyone!

 

Would like to build 2  virtualised computers off 1 CPU.

I have experience building normal computers. But I have no clue as to what I should be looking for., when building a virtualised My gut is telling me that I should be looking for some kind of virtualisation support on my motherboard.

 

I am looking at using second hand parts. I was thinking of going with either threadripper 1950 or ryzen 7 2700 based system.

I was thinking of paring that up with 2 AMD 590s (ASRock Phantom Gaming X RX 590 8G OC 8GB)

In terms of HDD(samsung EVO 860) and SSD. A normal 2.5 inc SSD 2 TB(About 1TB per person) and 8TB storage(4 TB per person).

G.Skill AEGIS 32 GB 3000MHZ ram (16GB each)

EVGA 750W PSU ( When I went online to check out how much power I need. It was roughly 545w so to be on the safe side 750w)

 

For the 2700 plan, I was going to go with the Asus Prime x470 pro gaming motherboard. 

For the Threadripper build I was looking at the Asus Rog Strix x399-E gaming

But my gut is  telling me that I need to be looking for something in the spec sheet. But I am not to sure as to what.

 

Are these good for virtualized computers. If not do you have any recommendations and any hints to you can give me(build and set up.

I know AMD calls their virtualization a few different things IOMMU, AMD-V, and another one I forget, while Intel calls theirs Intel VT. I didn't see any of those identifiers in the spec sheets for those mobos on newegg, though they could be unlisted.

I've been planning a similar build for the down the road myself, I hope you have good luck with yours!

PS Maybe try asking in the Nas and Server part of the forum, they deal with virtualization tech a lot.

Crazy good pricing on 2nd hand 580's and 570's 8gb on eBay.

Why does everyone always say 'just build two / multiple pcs' when this sort of thing comes up?

That is not what is being asked.
Its obviously not what the person asking wants, and its not even slightly helpful.

I would live to do that, but I live in Korea. And space is kind of a premium here and in terms of space having two pcs for my wife and I, is not practical So this was my solution to her. She is happy with it. But thanks for the advice about the 570/580 I look into it

You looking to save space? Because it's just cheaper to build two systems.

 

For that tho ATX boards make more sense if not the mATX Asrock X399M Taichi, not EATX X399-A from Asus

Gigabyte has a solid ITX board that can easily handle the 8 core CPUs

 

From there the Elite 130 or Core 500 are pretty slim cases, the Core 500 supports 240mm AIOs

We will soon be moving into our new place and it is only 48m2 ( for the whole house). That's why one pc.  Thanks for the recs I will look into it.
