Does anyone on here still play old school doom?

Animal901

Just picked it back up cause CS:GO is getting pretty mundane for me. I'm using the DooM eXplorer, Zandronum, gzDooM, and a few others. I wish LTT would shed some light on this old game that still has servers. The new engines can run those old Wad files with 8x AA and since my gtx 760 has a hard time on that setting im curious what frames one of fancy LMG PCs could pull off.  Who else still plays this game? No malware launcher (like bethesda) just a basic program.

I play Quake Champions as far as games that started 20+ years ago.  It is the best FPS multiplayer game IMO.  You can all try it as its free from steam.  I payed for it so I can setup custom server to play 1v1 with.  The free version has that highlighted out.

Asus Sabertooth x79 / 4930k @ 4500 @ 1.408v / Gigabyte WF 2080 RTX / Corsair VG 64GB @ 1866 & AX1600i & H115i Pro @ 2x Noctua NF-A14 / Carbide 330r Blackout

Most people are using the Doom II wad right now.  COD:Zombies was clearly a Doom co-op clone. Being able to mouse look, jump, and crouch in the modern engines definitely improves the experience. Some servers turn off jump, crouch, and mouse look. doom has a quake arena mod wad pk3 so i have no reason to launch steam. Doom explorer can download most of the files you need, if not all, to join crazy servers. If it can't it will Google for you.  There's also a mega man themed wad. If its not smooth as butter then there's a chance it's the server.  Games today give you the false illusion you have a chance with a pretty texture. Doom is a reminder it can get ugly and you're going to die. Just hope the server lets you respawn.

I sometimes replay the classic doom games using Gzdoom.  I've always loved the classic Doom games.

I've got Brutal Doom on one or a few of my flash drives. It's fun to boot up & whoop ass.

We need more doom servers. With cpus becoming insane in core count, and how small these files are in relation to modern games. I wonder how many servers could be ran at once if connected to an internet connection fast enough.

Quake champions started like a year of 2 ago not 20 years ago. If you are talking about quake live that must have been around 2011 as it came out around Battlefield 3

This thread is not about quake. It has its own life. A very successful one.. Quake will run as a portable install on a cd rom hooked up to a potato via IDE. When I was young,  quake was more compatible than doom.
