Network Cards for Online Gaming

Hubriz

Thoughts on this specific network card for online gaming:

And thoughts on network cards for online gaming, in general?  Can certain ones or for instance this one, dispel networking lag spikes during gameplay or is it just not possible without a wired connection?

Thanks.

You'd want wired, preferably Intel or Killer, paired with a decent router and having as low Bufferbloat on the connection as possible.

Wifi is always going to have some amount of lag, a good card like that can increase your signal strength to and from the router, especially if the router is similarly high end, but its always going to have lag spikes depending on external factors.

For example if theres a bathroom between you and the wifi, anytime someone showers the connection will get worse water and bodies block signal a bit. Or if theres a microwave in the way, or some concrete, or another computer setup, or any number of things.

There are however some ways to help this situation.

Scout out your local wifi channels and see which is emptiest, most people are on automatic channel and they get clogged up. If youre a bit of a jerk and have some extra routers you can set up some dead networks to free up some space on the channel you want.

I have the two antenna 1300mbps version of that card. It works. I prefer wired when possible, but it gets the job done.

Wired gigabit Network Interface Cards (NICs) are a good idea, Wireless connections are for pessants who enjoy buffering. If you want WiFi on your build as well just get a USB adapter! Make sure it’s dual channel at least..
