My monitor is acting weird?

So my other monitor is quite old(it's not 16:9, 1080p monitor, it's that kind of old) meaning i  am using a VGA to HDMI adapter to hook it up to my rtx 2070 graphics card. When ever i plug in the monitor to the GPU the monitor shows the display on for about 2 seconds then goes completely black.

Probably can't hold charge for some reason, try turning it off and back on a great number of times

 

I'm not gonna lie, if I had a 2070 and was forced to use a VGA to HDMI adapter I'd be looking at new monitors, which I think you should do. Might not be worth to troubleshoot a display like that

yeah ik but i got it for free from my work and i want it for just discord on the side and use my good monitor for games
