Hey everybody!

I'll be going back to uni in the near future (yay) and I want to buy a laptop for taking notes etc. I don't know jack about the current laptop market though, so I was hoping you could help me out.

The new machine will mostly be used to take notes plus maybe for some very light programming (I'm taking IT and datascience classes), for heavier workloads and gaming, I'll still be keeping my gaming rig at home.

Since I'll be using the laptop in different classes the entire day, it needs to have good battery life (10+ hours would be nice) and it needs to be light. Touch is an added benefit.

My budget is at around 1.500€ (hooray for my 9 to 5, I'll be missing you), but can be upped slightly if neccessary, so please don't hesitate to suggest a tad more expensive laptops.

And that's pretty much it. Thank you all in advance!

Note taking? Are you going to study something that involves a lot of math?

If so, I recommend the surface pro, from my own personal experience. digital notes that are always organized and that you can access everywhere are invaluable.

If not and you wanna be fancy, Lenovo thinkpad carbon, XPS 13 (I'd go two in one] and LG gram are all great choices, and linus made videos about all of them.

I'm glad you've chosen not to skimp on your uni machine. It's a work beast, and it needs to perform well.

Well thanks for the suggestions first of all!

I'll be majoring in computer science, with a heavy emphasis on artificial intelligence, so yeah I expect a lot of notes. I'll also probably be uploading them into/accessing them from my personal cloud, so they'll always be available, plus local storage capacity won't really be important (although I'd like around 500GB of SSD storage still).

A 400€ machine would probably suffice, but I can afford to spend more and I get fed up with slow tech to quickly to not skimp on a machine I'll be using almost daily for the better part of three years.

I'm aware that 10+ may be hard to achieve, but basically the more the better.

Display size: ~13'' - 15''

Display sRGB: don't care really

Non-upgradable RAM: should be alright, if I start out with enough RAM to begin with (8GB+, preferrably 16GB)

Min battery life: Answered that one above

Max weight: Don't really have a reference to go off of, pretty much just as light as possibly

As for the online stores, the usual ones are Amazon GermanyMedia Markt and Saturn, although I am far from set on using them, so pretty much anything goes...
