I was going through my basement today seeing all the old stuff i had down there when all of a sudden i approached this bag that looked like it had a computer in it. i opened the thing like it was christmas day and i saw my first PC and all the memories came back. i look into the bag some more and i see a keyboard with an IBM logo on it and my heart stops i quickly start pushing some keys and i suddenly have a nerdgasm. i flip the thing over and surely enough "modelo m" printed on the back, a tear came to my eye :') lol just felt like sharing hahahaahahhaha

My dads office had 12 of them, when they upgraded they were just scrapped, so I got him to bring them home and sold 10 of them and kept 2, one broke not long after, but I still have a Model M in really good condition, not gonna use it though, can't risk another break :(

I'm using an IBM model M keyboard right now. This thing is a beast, and I love the clickyness.

If you turn an old PC on that hasn't been on for a long time you might wanna check some things inside of it before you turn it on. Check for bulging capacitors, check for a leaky CMOS battery, clean dust bunnies, etc. Don't wanna see an old computer blow up ;)

How on earth did you break a Model M?

Old shit no one cares about but me.

I'm just about done restoring a Model M to give it a semi modern look. I have not spent a great deal of time typing on it but I'm looking forward to making it my main keyboard and my first mechanical at that.

How did you break a Model M? That thing is super beafy and can take a beating. I found a video on youtube of some guys smashing watermelons with it and then typing on it afterward.

Moving it from upstairs to downstairs, fell over my dog and... poof :( keys everywhere and the shell cracked along the top, it may still work, but it's in my attic, not all the pieces are there, a small chip of plastic came off the bottom (not too sure how I guess it hit something) and I don't intend to try it just yet, maybe if I have a need to go up there I'll bring it down, but not today.

keyboard that IBM made in the 80's has the best feeling keystroke you will ever feel. Sadly they stopped manufacturing them so they became rare. So basically they are the most solid keyboard with the best feeling keystroke you will ever find. As Linus said "you could kill a man with a model m" goes to show how stiff they are no flex at all hope that helped :P

I think that they are so solidly built that no other keyboard is that solid these days. I think that people like this keyboard because of the buckling spring switches which give a strong tactile feel and audible noise that people like.

Mind posting some pics mate? :D

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

I'm considering purchasing a Model M, but as a a gaming enthusiast will this be any good for me or should I look at a new modern mechanical keyboard? I believe a company called unicomp still manufactures them http://www.pckeyboard.com/

I use the Model M all the time for gaming. Of course it doesn't have any fancy macros or buttons or anything, just a plain old keyboard. It works just fine from what I've used of it (over a year). It really depends if you mind the clicking.

Old shit no one cares about but me.
