Content Creation PC Upgrade Help

Current specs

cpu: i7 7700k (I don’t think this needs upgrading)

CPU cooler: Corsair h100i v2

Motherboard: MSI z170a pro

memory: 32 gb DDR4 3000mhz Corsair vengence

storage: 1tb SATA ssd, 1tb HDD, 2tb hdd

Graphics Card: gtx 1060 3gb (I assume this needs to be upgraded)

psu and case I don’t plan on changing but the case is atx mid tower and a fully modular psu by Corsair.

 

Upgrade Budget: $1000

 

i plan on using premiere pro almost daily, and then photoshop sometimes. I want decently fast rendering times. But I’m mostly concerned about playback speeds while editing. I’m wondering what the i should upgrade or if not an upgrade a new pc. Just want general tips for what to get in my situation.

Ok so I take it you have knowledge of OCing ?  Simply we work with 3 thinks.  You should have a turbo option.  Im not sure what Mhz that gets you to.  To do it manually, you just need 3 settings to worry about.  CPU multiplier.CPU voltage and Load Line Calibration, also knowns as LLC.  First try just turning on Turbo, then ventually you can raise the multipler.  I would aim for 4.4Ghz if your using cummy CPU cooler.  Im not quiete sure about your CPU and what voltage it needs for a 4.4Ghz overlcock.  If you have sufficient cooling then take her to 4.Ghz just by raisng the mutli ,,,, then put your CPU voltage to 1.30v and see what happens.  If it boots up fine,, then I would start to lower the voltage so find the sweet spot.  We don't know how much voltage your 7700k needs every chip is different.  For now try a free overclock.  Set her to 4.2Ghz and turn on Turbo in BIOS and lets see what happens.

Spend the $500 on a RTX 2070 and you'll be good...

I am honestly not to informed about OCing, I planned on it but never really needed it, is there a YouTube video to watch or a place on their forum. I have a goos cooler: h100i v2. Thx in advance.

Your cooling will allow you to get a nice OC on that chip.  Let me find a video for you cuz sometimes text isn't enough.  Here you go Overclocking 7700k

TBH Thats still Perfectly fine. Getting a 8700k or 9900k will improve it A bit but honestly? Your going to just be fine with what you have. Dont upgrade unless you are making money off content.

Go for a 1660Ti or Vega 56 instead over the 2060. Much better value.

Great bones in that system, I'd only upgrade the GPU if you want better 1080p gaming.

You can get a 8700k and z370 obv would have to gotten. But i dont think its worth it unless you are actually making $$$ from it. Otherwise stick to what you got and make better and more consistent content

psu is fin

storage is good 

cooler should be fine

your current mobo is kinda sketch bu should be okay

 

upgrade your gpu and maybe you mobo and cpu

can get a 2080 is you want to spend more money

changing to ryzen since ryzen generally has better value for things like content creation but if you want intel you could also go that way

I'd get a 2060, and the rest is fine.

If you're looking for a better CPU go for a 8700K, 9900K (not recommended, needs a very good cooler and an expensive motherboard), Ryzen 7 or i7/i9 X299 CPU (such as the 7800X)

Haven't read other comments yet but upgrading is a huge waste IMO. I would only get a new GPU and that is it. If you render with Adobe premier, for example, a more powerful GPU would help thanks to Cuda acceleration, so a used 1080 Ti would be perfect, otherwise, your CPU is just fine. I still use my 6700k all the time for content creation and CAD modeling. 

 

I guarantee you would barely notice a CPU upgrade, just OC the snot out of your 7700k.

Maybe a new GPU for now, and hold off on the rest depending on the resolution of your footage.
