New place in moving to has coax through the walls, but no Ethernet wiring. I've seen that there's adapters for an Ethernet setup over this wiring, but is it worth the premium for the adapters?

The living room is down a hallway from the office, where I'll have the modem and router set up, so I'm looking for alternatives to stringing cat cables down the hall

I have the same problem! Might be worth the money, because if you’re like me and don’t have insane internet speeds, Ethernet might make a semi-slow speed bearable.

Literally. Sadly the spot I'm going to doesn't have fibre so I'm stuck to either an independent 25 down or 75 down over shared community bandwidth

Agh, me too! I wanted Verizon Fios but alas, I can’t. Shared community is really bad because you get ridiculously slow speeds when everybody is home. Around 6:00 or so at my place my internet speeds slow down to about 6 mbps

35 or 40 mbps, something like that. Nothing wonderful.

I really hate it because I used to have 100mbps on Verizon fios at my old house.

That's exactly what I'm leaving from right now- so it's a pretty tough choice

Moca 2.0 adapters can do any where from 400 Mbps - 800 Mbps half duplex. So Id say they are worth the money. The trick is, you can only have 16 Moca devices on a network, so you might need to invest in some Switches in areas where multiple machines need a connection. Also, if your using the same wiring as your cable provider you will need a filter on the main line coming in, besides that, it should work pretty well from what I read.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Luckily we'll only have 75-150 down, so great.

Theres only two PC's, a ps4 and xbox in the house so that shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks!

i looked into this and concluded it was easier just to use powerline adapters instead

Yeah but Powerline adapters are hit or miss, moca on the other hand generally will work. Plus Moca generally is faster compared to powerline adapters.

I suggest Power Line Adaptors if you want a cheap solution for Ethernet wiring in your house. The signals run down the electrical wiring in your house, so the age and quality of your electric wiring will really depend on what speeds you get. Usually the speeds are OK, depending on how far away the adaptors are from each other. They work the greatest on the same circuit, but they still work (not great) on different circuits. Usually the speeds aren't great though, but it really depends on the quality of the electricity wiring in your house. Personally, my house was built in 2010 and it has very good quality wiring and power line adaptors work pretty well from my tests. but they're useless in my house as I have Cat6 wiring.
