Installing a 120mm fan on a smaller heatsink

Mr.Muffins

I was wondering if it was possible to install a bigger fan on a smaller heatsink by adjusting the metal wires that you clip onto the fan?

Let me know if anyone has done this and what kind of tools do I need to make it happen.

It is possible, but there is no real reason to install a bigger fan than the heatsink itself. I would recommend a better fan rather than a bigger one if you are looking for more performance.

Sorry, forgot to say why I wanted to do this.

It's actually for aesthetics purposes, I couldn't find a 90mm halo ring RGB fan that matches my fan set. I was initially going for a 120mm heatsink, but the heatsink would've blocked the space for the RAM.

That's what I was thinking. What would those be called exactly, does it have a name?

I could just make my own metal arms :)

A simple way would be to use some zip ties, if you have some acrylic or aluminum you can always make an adapter.

I did it, took me a while but what I did was find some copper wire, bend them to the correct proportions, and snap them into the heatsink. Works like a charm!
