gaming with multiple people on one system without virtualization....

Ashleyyyy

i had a conversation with lukyp (who has left the forum) on Discord and this was brought up.

https://linuxgazette.net/124/smith.html

it uses a feature in xorg to enable gaming with multiple people on one system. it's really super outdated, but this concept could still work on modern versions on linux with some modifications.

i'm gonna try to figure out how it works and if i can make it work on modern linux distro's. lukyp is gonna try too. if we can make this work it would be an awesome idea for a video!

additional resources on how this works:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiseat_configuration

basically my goal here is for an LMG staff member to see this. it would be really awesome to see this done on LTT. i don't have loads of high end hardware to experiment with, so i can't really do much. it's super cool if it works, and i think something that LTT could make use of.

You can also do this on windows with microsoft multipoint, the problem is lots of games don't like having multiple copies running at once and just get picky. Its normally much more practical to just get multiple systems.

Pretty sure Wendell from level 1 tech is capable of this. I don't know if anyone on LMG staff team is capable considering they need Wendell's help to get GPU passthrough working.

lukyp told me to tell you that RDP is not like xorg. xorg has it's own graphics drivers and is therefore better suited for gaming.
