GTX 890?

Gauzl

I'm not expecting a definitive answer for this question.

Once Nvidia starts rolling out the 800 series how long could it be till they launch the dual GPU 890?

Il probably end up getting 2 GTX 880s but I would rather keep it more compact with a single dual GPU card but that's only if I don't have to wait long since I already have the money saved to get them, it's just a matter of time.

The 700 series is still using the Kepler arch which already has a dual gpu (690), I doubt they'd bring a second dual GPU for the same arch.

That's very true, didn't think about that.

For some reason, I don't see anymore dual GPUs coming out after the 790 (if it comes out, I don't see why it wouldn't) or the 800 series isn't gonna happen (as in it will be called something else). I mean, they only released the 760+ and there's apparently a 760ti OEM, which is strange. Maybe I'm just not expecting much from NVidia.

My point is that there really isn't that much of a leap from generation to generation now it seems. Can't fit 6+ different cards (non-Ti/whatever) on the same line without some cards looking identical to older gens that are likely cheaper. AMD proved that in some aspects, but they've been quite successful with the R7 and R9s imo.. And you could say that only worked because AMD has been the cheaper alternative for technology up until October. Can't wait for the full Hawaii line to push out. Even if that sucks, VESUVIUS!!! Hotter, faster, bigger, better (stronger. Na-na-na now nothin' that don't kill me.. (too much Coinye)).

GTX 800(m) series are being reserved for mobile cards. NVIDIA's pulling an AMD naming scheme/jump :S

In what manner? They've been doing that for years.

They've always released mobile months before desktop. Just check any laptop running nvidia graphics from CES.

Radeon HD 8000s were never released for the desktop though, unless I missed something. That's what he meant, I think.

Can someone explain what I'm missing?

They were, just that they were exactly the same as the 7xxx series but only OEM. So if you bought say an AlienWare *shudder* you could've gotten the Radeon 8970, which was the exact same thing as a 7970.

nVidia and AMD both did the exact same thing this generation...if nVidia does it again, I'll be dissapointed.

Rebadge of all Kepler/GCN cards, addition of 2 more GPUS.  (3 if you count Titan in nVidia's case).
