So currently the last part that I need for my PC build is the PSU, but I'm unsure whether or not I'd be fine with a 550w power supply, or if going for a 650 would be good just in case for wiggle room.

System Specs:

Ryzen 5 2600X

8 x 2 GB of DDR4 RAM (3200 MHz)

MSI X470 Gaming Plus Motherboard

RTX 2060 XC Ultra Gaming (EVGA recommends a min. of a 500 PSU)

240 GB SSD

1 TB 7200 RPM HDD

The PSU I'm looking at is an 80+ Gold rated PSU either way.

650 gives more overhead if you want to upgrade in the future or overclock, and will be more efficient since you aren't running the PSU as close to its maximum rating, but it won't be by more than 1-2%.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You don't need anything past 550. What unit is it?

Even 450w will do. The most aggressive 2060 BIOS puts the power limit to 225w, while the 2600X draws about 150w in max overclock. For holding upgrades, 550w will do and no need for 650w.

what PSU is that though? 80+ Gold doesnt mean it's good.

Would you guys say they're a reliable brand?

No. No one should choose by brand.

As a manufacturer, they aren’t the best. They are Tier 3, meaning they outsource their PCB-A. This could lead to worse QC as opposed to a tier 1 manufacturer.

The Focus Plus is pretty good, if you can look past it’s OCP issues.

Heard good things about the Seasonic brand,

I wonder where that comes from...

1) you don't go by brand but by model

2) Seasonic is totally overrated because they make "Mistakes" for example the amount of 12V Rails on some units...

Personally I prefer other units before Seasonic instead...
