1080ti crashing every game

Reicarlow

So I recently upgraded my gpu from 970 to zorac 1080ti amp extreme. However overwatch comes with a crash never seen from my 970.

”Your rendering device has been lost.”

in apex legends im having a crash ive seen 3 different crash codes and hang.

These are my specs below,

my PSU is FSP Raider 750w 80+ Silver

im using the raidmax augusta case which has uhm 3 fans itself.
CPU Cooler - Coolermaster Seidon 120v

Storage -  120gb SSD / 2 1TB HDD
Ram - HyperX dd3 1600mhz  2 8gb
This pc is built on 2014.

some people say i should change the PSU to at least 850w 80+ gold (since my psu is old and could accumulated some dusts.)

however i want to know if game crashes are sometimes related to the PSU?

I bought the 1080ti zotac amp extreme as a used card.

please help!!!

Alright so the first question will be:

If you put back in the 970 (if you still have it) do you still get the crashing?

Second question:

Did you use DDU and then install the latest drivers with a clean install?

Third question:

Have you checked to make sure that the GPU is seated in the slot correctly with the power cables fully inserted?

1. Havent tried putting back the 970, cause im focused on finding out whats causing the crash. And i just swapped it out just today, not getting any crash whatsoever with the 970. Just after using the 1080ti

2. Yes I did.

3. I already tried reseating the gpu on the slot and removing the cables and puttting it back on.

Your 1080TI uses 2 x 8 pin PCI-E connectors, are you using 2 separate cables back to the PSU or a single with a "pig tail" second connector? Your old GPU probably had a 6 & 8 pin connector but would have been drawing less power. Before looking at anything else, ensure you are running 2 separate power cables to your GPU to eliminate this as an issue.

If your PSU is very old, you may be experiencing power issues, Zortec recommend a 600W minimum, you may wish to purchase a better quality PSU (reviews on the FSP seemed mixed). EVGA or Corsair come to mind depending where you reside. I use both brands over the years and haven't experienced any issues.

Thanks for your reply! upon looking I think it has 2 x 8pin connectors what do you mean by "pigtail"??

It does have 2 8 pin connectors. "Pig tail" refers to a cable that has 2 x 8 pin connectors on the same cable.

Edit: Yup, you are using a "pig tail".

PS. You might want to do some dusting as well :)

If you only have a single physical cable running from you GPU to your PSU then yes, that's a pig tail cable.

it looks like it. is there a way to resolve this issue? Or is this not a problem? cause from what I understand running on this pigtail setup causes lower input to the gpu??

Your PSU support 4 x 6+2 pin PCI-E connections. Use a sin

Your PSU support 4 x 6+2 pin PCI-E connections. Use a single 8 pin (6+2) from each of the 2 physical PCI-E powers cables.

The PSU needs to be replaced, it's a VERY poor quality unit that you are trying to use with a high end GPU.

Never a good combo. NEVER

750W is fine, but get a higher quality PSU:

Seasonic Focus Plus

Corsair RMX

EVGA G2 or G3.

i9 9900K @ 5.0 GHz, NH D15, 32 GB DDR4 3200 GSKILL Trident Z RGB, AORUS Z390 MASTER, EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB, Samsung 860 EVO 1TB, Samsung 860 EVO 500GB, ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q 27", Steel Series APEX PRO, Logitech Gaming Pro Mouse, CM Master Case 5, Corsair AXI 1600W Titanium.

i7 8086K, AORUS Z370 Gaming 5, 16GB GSKILL RJV DDR4 3200, EVGA 2080TI FTW3 Ultra, Samsung 970 EVO 250GB, (2)SAMSUNG 860 EVO 500 GB, Acer Predator XB1 XB271HU, Corsair HXI 850W.

i7 8700K, AORUS Z370 Ultra Gaming, 16GB DDR4 3000, EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 Ultra, Samsung 960 EVO 250GB, Corsair HX 850W.

You have  2 PCI-E cables that are connected to your PSU, each has a pair of 6+2 pin connectors on the end. Use a single 6+2 pin connector from one of the cables and connect it to the 8 pin power connection on the GPU. Using the second PCI-E cable, connect a single 6+2 pin connector to the other 8 pin power connection on the GPU. You should end up with 2 individual PSU cables connected to the GPU power connection points..

Sorry for the typo, mistake happened when I was quoting you.

Finally! Yes, you do have 2 separate cables. Time to look into a better quality 750~850W PSU.

You might want to try it in debug mode.

Go to the Nvidia control panel. Under "help" select debug mode. It takes off the factory overclock and that reduces power consumption.

I concur... and if you're in the USA, you can't really go past an EVGA PSU for their build quality and affordability.

It's easy to overlook the good quality PSU as being an important component in your system but having clean reliable power is a key to a healthy computer. Buying some Yum Cha Super Zeppelin (ergo unnamed brand) PSU because it claims a particular wattage and has the requisite cables simply to save a few pennies may lead to an expensive disaster down the track. Ponying up the cash for a top-tier power hungry GPU and marrying it up to a weak PSU (again, your PSU reveals mixed reviews) is just false economy.
