I just bought a 1080p 144hz monitor and I can definitely recommend going for a 144hz monitor. It is just so smooth! some games allow you to resolution scale to 200% so you can still use your 2080ti horsepower to render games in 5120x2880 :) *If you'd go with a 1440p monitor

both re technically suitable, it's a preference thing

some want the higher resolution, some want the higher refresh rate, both are good options, but i won't make the choice for you

for gaming, go with the 1440p 144hz option. I bought a 75hz when I originally built my pc. Few weeks ago I added another 27 inch 1440p 144Hz screen. Work is amazing. Gaming is amazing.

Youll always have enough space to do some serious work with, unless you got very specific use cases - IMO (like usual office stuff is gonna be more than great).

Upscaling 1080p @ 60hz mmmmm nah man. I do that on my TV, works fine (although the refresh there is def higher than 60hz). When youre sitting up close though youll appreciate the denser pixels of 1440p over 1080, but mostly just that refresh rate. Go for 144 Hz, you will not regret it.

I think, if you dont need 4k in terms of just monitor space for specific programs you use, then 4k:

- is pricey

- gives you nothing in games that could be an experience changer (1080p upscaled)

- if native res. gaming: requires you to constantly keep buying new hardware as games move along. (if for whatever reason you'd want that ^^)

You game with friends online and alone in your house? : 144hz 1440p is perfect (with gsync better :D )
You want to play with your friends like with a ps4/xbox (2 controllers, party on your house...) : better 4k

I think its better 144hz 1440p  for everyday gaming , but if you play with your pc on weekends with friend on your house, 4k suits better to you.
