Might sound dumb, but I'm looking to upgrade my PC. There are many offers for 780Ti around £80, or I can splash the cash on a 970 which is around £140. Currently running a 950 in a prebuit, which has a i3 4130, 8G ram and i think a 450w PSU. Im looking for ideally benchmark comparisons since Ive not really been involved with anything computer-ry in a while, and opinions on which route youd take would also be appreciated. Thanks ?

you can get (atlease in the states) rx 480/580s for about $100 usd witch would kick in a 780

but to answer your question performance wise the 780 and 970 are extremely
similar

your PSU most likely doesnt have the required powerrails or wattage nor connectors to connect up either of those GPUs.

buy this PSU and then spend the leftovers on a R9 290x for about 80£. the 780ti is not a good card at 80£ and the 290x is a much better offering.

Performance wise they're pretty similar but the 970 will be a lot more power efficient though. There is however another option I would suggest you look at. A quick look on Ebay threw these up.

One is a GTX 970 for a fair bit less than you found. The other is a 3gb GTX 1060 which is also similar performance to the 970 and 780ti for about the same price as a 970 but has a little less power draw and unless you plan on overclocking the hell out of it then the single fan shouldn't be a problem. I would say get at least the 970 cause it'll be a lot lower power draw than the 780ti and it'll be a newer card.

The 780Ti used to rival the 980 but Nvidia told Kepler to get fucked so it's basically the same as a 970, just with 3GB of VRAM instead of 3.5GB

780ti has issues with latest drivers reducing performance, and the 780/ti does only have 3gb VRAM.

I have a 780 classifed and run old drivers and have OC'ed the living hell out of it and it barely keeps up with a 1060 6gb. Which is great for a 780 dont get me wrong, but i wouldnt recommend any1 upgrading to a 700 series unles they are looking at a super budget entry level cardl ike a 750 ti.

I would look for a 970, 980, 980ti , rx 580, rx590, or a 1060.

980ti is the fastest but ur unlikely to find one cheap enough.

You might be able to find a 1060 6gb if ur lucky. In the UK they seem to go for around £90-£150 used.

I'd go for the 780 Ti. The 780 Ti and 970 are similar performance-wise, and the 780 Ti is quite a bit cheaper.

Before upgrading your GPU always make sure your PSU is good enough to handle it. In terms of wattage, you shouldn't have any issues. But if your PSU is bad quality it just isn't a good idea.

What PSU do you have?

Wouldn’t spend that much on a 970 given the cost of the 780. Half a gig of memory isn’t worth it.

Id save and get something better than both.

I still used old Kepler cards up until last month. Still performed well enough for me to enjoy most games I play. But I didn’t have low vram versions.
