Where are you located? I'm in the UK. There's are reason why it's so crap.

I live in Scotland and never had problems with Floatplane buffering.

It might be your internet, it is quite slow especially if trying to download videos at 1080p or greater which requires at least 100 download speed. Servers might also be a factor but I don't think so.

The wireless to my TV is max 45 down, and I can stream 4k amazon and Netflix perfectly. Netflix even state that 25 down is all that's recommended for 4k (recommended not minimum).

Do you run your connection through a VPN? I don't know about floatplane, but from my experience some websites really don't like that.

My guess is that your ISP runs a packet shaper. So unknown sources gets down prioritized.

If it's not your hardware in your house, then it is probably your ISP throttling from the sound of it. Which ISP are you using?

I don't understand why CDN hasn't been set up.

There are multiple CDN servers, I know Aus has been problematic for FP as a few ISPs (well more like one specifically) aren't playing ball and throttling traffic but I've not heard of anything like that for the UK. Using the Chrome (or equiv) dev tools to check which server you're getting directed to when playing a video.

On the forum (not sure it works on the actual FP site) hit F12 to open Dev tools, then go to the console tab and you'll see something like this.

image.png.67b458ba9ee80621655031286be24acd.png

The first one is the edge server you'll be directed to, everything start off talking to the NA server but it will switch to the one that is listed first. It picks based on lowest latency, you can expand each of those to see what the latency is.

After a short while you'll see the url in the same console change over to the edge server with that lowest latency, like so.

image.png.09ab26e820657167f56d5c8a2e4d4010.png

Whenever I get directed to the wrong edge server, it's happened to me, the experience is crap and you can't stream the videos because it's way to slow.

You can also go to the Network tab in the dev tools and look for lines with chunk in it, click on it. (I think this way works on the FP site)

That's on the actual floatplane website isn't it? It doesn't show the edge server list, jump down to my second part about the Network tab or use the forum to view the video and get the info. Though I'm not sure the edge selection is exactly the same between the forum and floatplane website (should be).

Thats' from the Floatplane website.

When I play the video is starts at and stays at 360p. As soon as I change it to 1080p it lags and nothing loads.

Also sorry on the floatplane site the lines you are looking for don't have the word chunk in them, they start with n. I still mostly use the forum to watch FP vdieos.

EDIT: I tried with and without Hardware acceleration. Same thing

Click on one of those lines starting with n, once you select it the middle panel will load more information and it'll have the url it's talking to.

Yep something is off, since you're on the forum viewing the video could you go back to the Console part of the Dev tools and expand one of the lines like this
