Gaming, how much more frames does 64gb throw in?

None

For gaming you shouldnt look past 16

I know that 64gb is obviously more powerful than 32gb, but how much of a difference does it really make?

For what operations?

Thats like asking what the difference is between a 1TB hard drive and a 5TB hard drive, 5TB is useless if you don't need anything more than 1TB. But useful if you need the 5TB's storage

For gaming 64GB of RAM is going to make absolutely no difference. Even 32GB is unlikely to be faster than 16.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some reviewers have actually tested 32GB vs 16GB (same speed etc) and found that for some reason certain titles give marginal but repeatable gains when 32GB is present despite not using more than 16GB of RAM.

However, if all you're doing is gaming, unless you have a board like mine that actually prefers having all 4 DIMMs populated, I would just stick to 16GB & party. Definitely don't got 64GB unless you're doing rendering or something that actually needs more system RAM. It's purely a waste of money otherwise.

If it adds to your PC's RGB ensemble, though, fair game.

Do it and do it now.

  • 1 year later...

It's also important to note that your OS will use your unused RAM to cache everything you are working with.

So if you give it 64GB of RAM, it will keep A LOT of data there. So things like opening the same game second time will be much faster (unless you turn off PC, but you can use Sleep instead).
