Sarching for Help / 1440p / 144hz / g-sync / ips?

Killerkom

Hello,

first of all, thx for reading.

I am currently searching for a new monitor. Currently, I have a Dell U2711. It is also a 1440p IPS monitor.

What I want in the new one is now also 144hz and g-sync. On the g-sync side, I am not 100% convinced yet because of g-sync compatible monitors.

There are a couple of these out there but every time I read about them, people are complaining about the poor panel quality.

For example:

Asus ROG Swift PG279Q
Acer Predator XB271HUbmiprz

People are complaining about the backlight bleeding and so on.

So please if any of you have a tip for me, which brand I should go for or any other tip I am happy to get it.

Also, is the price worth for g-sync? I am willing to pay if the benefit is still worth it.

Some info System info if of interest:

Have a

i7 6700k

GTX 1080

16GB ram

THX for reading and you help!

Now that freesync works with Nvidia cards you may want to consider it. gsync is nice but it's real pricey.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

If your hardcore gamer IPS wont cut it,  Try VA panel.  But if you do photography or content creation then IPS would be the way to go.  I would get the ROG Swift, alto pricey it will deliver a immersive smooth experience.

well the advantage that VA and other panel types have over IPS is that they're easier to get to 144Hz, but if you're paying extra for IPS to be at 144Hz then it's good color at the refresh rate you want, and of course the monitors considered in the original post have good response times as well so IPS really is the way to go for this god tier monitor selection.

So, I am mainly a gamer but because I am used to the current iPS panel, I am afraid that I pay 600 or more and get a display what I like less, colourwise.

But to be honest I only looked at TN or IPS panels and I don't know how good or bad VA is.

All panels have disadvantages and advantages.  fasauceome is correct, Im just going by the research and how they say VA over IPS if used for gaming.  If he does a little content creation on the side then you get the best of both worlds,, color and performance.  Also IPS tends to bleed, but most users dont let that scare them off.  If Im not mistaken.

@Killerkom I have a BenQ Zowie XL2730, its G-sync compatible, 144 hz, 1440p, has a great stand and is considerably cheaper. If you play with the settings a bit  (see the reivew I linked) you  get really good color accuracy out of the panel

Here is a great, in depth review on it

TN and VA are comparable, with IPS generally being much better with rich colors (and specifically, better darks, my favorite part of my monitor) so overall color should be good. My friend uses hat ROG swift monitor and while it does tend to have occasional issues, color is nice.

I actually recommend the non-165Hz model, it seems to have less problems.

VA sits between both, it has worse colours than IPS but better colours than TN.

one thing VA has advantage is darker blacks which can be useful too... honestly I'd do as people said, get a 1440p 144hz panel that features FreeSync instead, you can save as high as 200 dollars doing so and having the identical experience now that nVidia Pascal and Turing supports FreeSync.

Maybe I then also could drop the g-sync idea and stick with free sync. Also, I am then compatible with AMD as well. Maybe more secure for the future.

Only dropping G-Sync should save me some money. Maybe then I could stick with IPS?!

Some suggestions for a VA panel monitor? And or IPS?

I'm also interested in maybe upgrading my current 60Hz 27" 1440p IPS to a 144Hz one.

The one linked here:

Looked promising, but it's sold out/no longer available on all UK online stores I found with a quick google search of the model number.

Following thread to see if a good monitor at a good price is found

@Killerkom

have a a look at the gigabyte aurus AD27QD.

has freesync but works perfectly fine with G-sync.

Absolutely in in love with my monitor. Worth the €599 I spent on it.
