Hello everyone.

I bought this cheap cooler a few years back with the rest of my pc and has not been a problem until recently, I get a cpu fan error message upon cold starts and have to exit it out of the bios to continue to windows and then it works just as it always does. I did try a small old cpu fan and didn't seem to be a problem, is there anything that could be wrong with the cpu fan or could it be my mother board settings? saying that I haven't changed anything for a long time so I cannot see the settings being the issue.

I have already tried changing the thermal paste too, but it does not seem to be anything to do with the problem at hand as temps have always been the same.

Asus Maximus VI Gene MATX,

LGA1150 Intel 4670K,

Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo

any help would be appreciated :)

It's possible the fan bearing is worn out and you should replace the fan.

Otherwise it could be that the BIOS too high of a low limit (the minimum fan RPM) and is causing the error.

For example, I have to set my motherboard to 400RPM because my delta fans can idle at 400-500RPM on the lowest speed. I think default is 600 or 800RPM

Try to see if you can see a CPU fan speed in Windows, with a hardware monitoring application.

If Windows can't see the RPM, your UEFI probably won't either.

I assume you did wire the fan to the CPU Fan header because you state another fan worked perfectly.

Go to your BIOS, and just change to ignore so it won't care what the fan speed is.  This doesn't at all mean your fan or fans on HSF are botched.  Also turn off wait for error F1 something like that.  The BIOS see the cpu fan is not spinning fast enough and it gives CPU error so just put ignore and you won't get that message.  Then check what your fan speeds are in windows and how your overclock is and your temps and what not.

Is the fan spinning? The F1 fan error is from the lack of fan detected on the cpu_fan header or if the rpm is too low. If the fan is working fine, you can disable the fan warning in the motherboard settings.
