High CPU usage and low GPU usage in fortnite!

rEnn0725

So I've gotten my new 144hz monitor lately and I've been playing in fortnite.

My fps is around 120-160, sometimes it will stutter really hard to the point its unplayable. I usually play on 1152x1080 as my res. I cap my fps at 180

My CPU usage is around 80-100%

And my GPU usage is around 20-40%

My RIG

I5-4460 4C/4T

Asus B85M-G Mobo

GTX 1050 TI 4G

Some random Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ ram (single channel memory)

Thermaltake Litepower 550W

Acer KG214QP 144hz

Is there any bottleneck and is there any reason to fix the CPU & GPU usage?

I don't think the CPU can keep up with that frame-rate. so most likely a CPU bottleneck.

A resolution that low is not demanding at all for a GPU and it relies very heavily on your CPU to push the frames. A heavier load on the GPU will reduce stuttering at the cost of some few framerates, so try increasing the resolution or some graphical settings.

I wouldn't really call this a CPU bottleneck, as you're getting ample frames, however, the stuttering is intriguing. Check the memory usage on your GPU, if you're hitting 100% on there that would be your problem.

increase graphics settings until your GPU is seeing high usage

=> problem solved.

the i5 4460 isnt a rocketship anymore, and i dont think anyone ever really expected it to hit 144FPS in games.. take it for what it is and keep it at that.

oh, and if you insist, dual channel memory *may* help, but no guarantees on that front, maybe time to look into a better cpu?

4690k, 1070ti, 16gb dual channel. 144p 144hz, cpu bottlenecked at about 80fps with stutters. waiting for ryzen 3.

Im getting 30-50% usage in my GPU and my CPU is completely maxed out in 4 cores

I understand that, but you're still getting a high framerate. Look at it this way, when your GPU is at 100% and your CPU is at 20% you don't call that a GPU bottleneck, even though it is. In your case, your CPU is holding back your GPU but your performance is fine. If you want higher performance you can overclock your CPU (will make an impact, but nothing too crazy) or look into getting a used i7. Check out eBay and Ali Express for an i7 4770k or 4790k.
