Helping my friend building a pc and he's wondering where the best place to put his money is.

He mentioned that he would like to stream games at 1080p60 at high settings.

I was suggesting an RX 580/590 with an i5-9600k for his 1080p build.

Would this be more of a strain on the CPU or GPU?

Should he ditch the RX 580/590 and go with something stronger or would this be enough for streaming?

How about if he went with the vanilla i5-8400 instead of the i5-9600k, would you still recommend this system for streaming?

Thanks!

Streaming is CPU dependent. I would rather go for an I7 or Ryzen 5 for (better) streamingresults

Main PC:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | RAM:Corsair LPX 3200 mhz (32GB)

Mobo:ASUS Strix B550-F Wifi | GPU: Gigabyte 9070

Case: Sharkoon Nightshark RGB| Storage: 500 GB 970 EVO Plus 1 TB WD blue 500 GB Samsung HDD

Monitor: iiyama G-Master G2470HSU-B1 165Hz

Powersupply: Cooler Master GX III Gold 750

Main Laptop

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H | RAM: Team group 16 GB 2666 mhz

GPU: RTX 2060 (MXM swappable)

Monitor: 1080p 120Hz

Storage: 2x 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (no raid)

Second Laptop

CPU: Intel Core I5 1235u,  RAM: Crucial 16 GB 3200 mhz

GPU: IrisXe 80 eu

Storage: 512 GB WD Digital SN530 NVMe

If you take a 8400 I would recommend a nvidia card for nvenc encoding

Case: Corsair 760T  |  Psu: Evga  650w p2 | Cpu-Cooler : Noctua Nh-d15 | Cpu : 8600k  | Gpu: Gygabyte 1070 g1 | Ram: 2x8gb Gskill Trident-Z 3000mhz |  Mobo : Aorus GA-Z370 Gaming K3 | Storage : Ocz 120gb sata ssd , sandisk 480gb ssd , wd 1gb hdd | Keyboard : Corsair k95 rgb plat. | Mouse : Razer deathadder elite | Monitor: Dell s2417DG (1440p 165hz gsync) & a crappy hp 24' ips 1080p | Audio: Schiit stack + Akg k712pro + Blue yeti.

Streaming is dominantly cpu dependent, so I would recommend the 9600k rather than a beefier gpu. With that said, the ryzen 2700 is only $230, which is cheaper than the 9600k, but offers better streaming capabilities. However, it does produce lesser gaming performance than the 9600k, but, if he is going to stream a lot, the 2700 should be looked at

PC: CPU: i5-9600k - CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 - GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 - Motherboard: ASRock - Z370 Extreme4 - RAM: Team - T-Force Delta RGB 16 GB DDR4-3000 - PSU: Corsair - TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply - Case: Thermaltake - Core G21 TG

dont buy the 8400. get either Ryzen 2600 or 2700 if he wants to CPU encode.

you can either CPU encode or GPU encode. GPU encoding is slightly worse visually, but you dont need a good CPU. CPU encoding is slightly better visually but you need a better CPU.

any old modern graphics card can do GPU encoding.
