GPU recommendation for build

celerystruct

Hello I am building a PC to game on and do light video editing work (emphasis on light).

I have the parts picked out and for the GPU I currently have the PowerColor - Radeon RX 590 8 GB Red Devil Video Card. I am planning on buying a new GPU in November for Black Friday. I mostly picked this GPU so I can game in the mean time and also because AMD is offering three games with purchase.

I'm wondering if I can buy a lesser card like the RX 570 or if there was any real benefit to buying something better like the Vega 64.

Also I'll also be buying a new Ryzen CPU with the graphics card so even if I get something like the RX 570 and only get two of the three games I'll still be able to get Tom Clancy's Division 2.

The games I'll be playing are the three included games: Tom Clancy's Division 2, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Devil May Cry 5. I also plan on playing games like Rise of Tomb Raider, Assassin's creed, and Rainbow 6.

I'm not too familiar with resolutions but I'd like it to surpass the PS4 pro on a 4k TV.

Here is my build so far

Also the total says $1754.76 on PC parts picker but the store I am planning on buying from is offering some of these components at a discount in a bundle.

All in all if I exclude the peripherals the PC alone with the RX 590 totals around $1200 before taxes.

To surpass the ps4 pro and play games like assassin creed origins and above and tomb raiders i would think you would need at least a gtx 1070 more like a gtx 1080 ti.

8700k , 32gb ram , 2080 ti ftw3 ultra , msi gaming m5 , 7.1 kilpsch rp series , denon srh750 , sony 65x900f, 27tb's hdd's+ssd's , cooler master h500p modded case

if they are looking for that kind of performance a 1080 ti would be a bit overkill, not to mention the fact you cant find many any more and when you do they were either used for mining/broken or are INSANELY expensive (talking like 1000 bucks a piece here)

anyway, if I were you i would stick with that 590, but if your budget can afford it a 64 would work just fine. If you want to go nvidia 1070/1070ti is the most you would ever really need, but a 980/980ti would work pretty good

i wouldn't suggest a 2060 to be perfectly honest, as you would be paying for features that you will probably never use, though it is a good "budget" option compared to a 1070 as far as performance goes.

If your wanting 60fps on a 4k tv i would say 1080ti or above imho.

8700k , 32gb ram , 2080 ti ftw3 ultra , msi gaming m5 , 7.1 kilpsch rp series , denon srh750 , sony 65x900f, 27tb's hdd's+ssd's , cooler master h500p modded case

you already said that, except you left out the 1070/1070ti recommendation. Either way, theres no point in getting anything along the likes of a 1080Ti, that is so much overkill, especially since your options for 1080ti performance and up os the 1080ti, 2080ti, and Titan RTX which are all 1000 USD or higher. the vega 56 i recommended will do just fine, though i recommend a vega 64 if you can spare the extra cash

you still get your three free games and you get a significantly better gpu for not too much of a price increase

I would think that gtx 1070ti @60fps at med to low settings would be fine and i would think that the vega 56 would be under that in performance. yes you can go cheaper if you want but i dont think 1080 ti 4k@60 fps high or ultra setting is any were near overkill on alot of games .

But i dont know jack about amd gpus

8700k , 32gb ram , 2080 ti ftw3 ultra , msi gaming m5 , 7.1 kilpsch rp series , denon srh750 , sony 65x900f, 27tb's hdd's+ssd's , cooler master h500p modded case

he isn't using a 4k panel, he is using a 1080p monitor a 144 hz, the vega 56/64 will do just fine (vega 56 is on par with a gtx 1070 Ti and is like half the price)

either way a 1080ti is still more than you need to surpass a ps4 pro on a 4k tv, even if you were using the 4k tv with the pc as well

an rx 480 is basically the same as the neo gpu in the ps4 pro so a 570/580/590 is good enough to equal if not surpass its performance (surpassing its performance would probably be 590/vega56/vega64) because for a semi budget build like this going with nvidia 10 series cards just makes zero sense, they are more expensive than their amd counterparts and are currently much hard to find at good prices. so vega 56 is the best option on the market currently for what he is trying to do, its 'cheap' meaning it is cheaper than what its nvidia counterpart is (1070/1070Ti) and on top of that you can find a stupid ammount of these used on ebay for really cheap.

Thanks for your help everyone! I think I'm going to have to debate whether I get the RX 590 or Vega 56.

The nvidea cards are just a bit too pricey for me at the moment. I was thinking of picking up a more expensive card later in the year like Black Friday or something. I think I'm going to stick to the RX 590 for now but consider Vega 64 and maybe the 2060.

Oh but is there anything I should know regarding monitors? I heard 144hz refresh rate is good but what do i need to look for to get 4k resolution? Also does the GPU matter for streaming in 4k like watching 4k Netflix of YouTube?

At least get the RX580 instead of the 590 if you decide for the 590, as you only get a 10% increase with the 590 over the 580 and the 590 is about 50$ more, which is a lot for so little performance IMO

Have you ever tried to game at 4k 60fps with anything less than a 1080ti?  You usually have to turn down so many settings that there is no reason to be playing 4k at all.

1080ti, 2080, 2080ti, or MAYBE Radeon VII are they only worthwhile options for 4k in my experience.  Anything else will either have too low of FPS or too low of detail to have the "wow" to really make 4k gaming worth it.

I recommend making some changes, if you avoid that case, the Samsung M.2 SSD, RGB RAM, and a few other items, you can then afford a GTX 1070Ti.

Same amount of SSD storage from reputable brands, same case type with a mesh front, but better cable management and cheaper cost. Non-RGB ram, and a lower cost motherboard with virtually no features lost, also the SeaSonic Prime unit is just as good but costs less.

you orgot that he was getting the parts bundled for cheap, he said most of the parts came in a bundle for 1200, so I don't think he actually is spending that much ($1500+) on this PC
