1440p vs 240hz, which to get?

Slazyel

Hi guys,

Would like to know if it would be better to buy a Dell S2719DGF (27, 1440p, 155hz) or a Alienware 2518hf(24.5, 1080p, 240hz). The dell is about $100 dollars more where i live, so, what do you think? Sadly both are TN but i heard those have great tn panels.

Currently i own a acer Predator X34, but i will sell it because i think its too big for gaming where i sit.

My rig contains a i5 9600k, 16gb ram and a 1080 ti.

I mostly play online and/or competitive games like LOL, Overwatch, Battlefield V,etc. Sometimes i play single player and coop games too like Anthem, Mmorpgs, etc.

I never found 240 Hz to be a noticeable increase in Fluidity - YES you can tell a difference if they are side by side but not really a big WOW effect like comparing 60 and 100+ Hz is.

1440p however is a nice increase in clarity

As Shimejii said before i would look for an IPS panel though - even good TN isnt THAT great and the prices for IPS really have come down in recent months. ^^

Difference between 144Hz and 240Hz is pretty noticeable to me. I recommend both. Wait for the monitor Lenovo released at CES. It is both 2K and 240Hz. Though the panel is TN I’m pretty sure.

Expensive 8 and 10bit (8bit+A-FRC) TN panels have great color for gaming. It is the 6 bit panels that have the bad color.

I went with a 1440p 144hz VA monitor.

I got one for $530 on Black Friday.

The only reason I went 32" is because my 4k monitor is 32" and at some point they will be on the same desk.

What about 8bit (6 bit + frc)like the aw2518hf?

Don't know.

I would not own one because I now buy monitors without seeing them in person. When I bought the TN panels I saw them demoed.  I would not take the risk of going below those specs because a lot of people complain about TN picture quality and I have nothing to complain about with my 8 bit and 8 bit+a-frc panels.

My 8 bit 1440p TN panels are ASUS PB277Q.

My 2 8bit+A-FRC TN 4k panels are an ASUS MG28UQ and a Samsung U28E590D. The panels are from the same manufacturer.

These panels hold up beside my 8bit and 8bit+A-FRC VA panels.

I use this site for monitor specs. https://www.displayspecifications.com/
