Verify my code? HTML/CSS

Jlryan

Hey guys, just spent the best part of three hours writing this out from scratch. Now, I'm no HTML/CSS master, I'm far from it, but I am learning and I'm looking for any sort of critique.

There's no images set in for this yet, I've yet to take them.

I will be using this for my listing on eBay once I have finished (hopefully tomorrow).

You can view the live page here.

Thanks in advance!

nicely done with design, good color select and layout.

the only thing that i would change would be this section of code

<div id"description_title"="">                                                            <div class="divide">                                <table width="100%" cellspacing="30" cellpadding="0" border="0">                                <tbody><tr>                                <td valign="top"><hr size="6" color="#950000"></td>                                </tr>                                </tbody></table>                                </div>                                                                <p1>Description:</p1>                                                            </div>

This table adds to the body width of the page adding the horizontal scroll bar which does not match the content.
I assume you planned on using the table to hold each image. however you properly made adequate margins to counter the need for a table.

NOTE: I viewed the webpage in firefox 26.0 using a 1920x 1200 resolution with firebug add-on to find the issue on total page width.

if you have more question feel free to ask. hope this helps, good job so far!

If you do F12 to bring up the console in FireFox, it will complain that the float CSS tag has no "center" value. It is denoted for the body tag. The valid values for the float tag are "left", "right", "none", and "inherit".

I think you can remove the float as you already have set margins to center your content.

Other than that, I like the contrast in color (dark-ish background with light text). If you can ensure that your 3 images are sufficently bright enough, then it should look good.

Ok so put the code into Expression 4 and a few minor bugs are present. Firstly the <br><br> Both are open, you need to close it so <br></br> (Although this is only needed for XHTML). Few minor bugs with the ID tags which I've fixed, also applies XML rules and now everything shows as clean and valid. Displays fine too.

Hope it helps. EDIT: Cleaned up the code some more, there is a lot of Br tags......

This table adds to the body width of the page adding the horizontal scroll bar which does not match the content.

Ah, the tables... *grumbles*

The whole reason this started was because I was given a template to use, and it was just a mess of tables. I personally haven't been taught much on tables, only CSS, so I decided to re-write the whole template and give it my own custom layout/colouring.

The table that you're referring to is what I'm using for the coloured separators between each segment (Description, A little bit of fact, Payment, etc).

If you could let me know how I could fix the issue you found without compromising the integrity of that function, that would be great! :)

If you do F12 to bring up the console in FireFox, it will complain that the float CSS tag has no "center" value. It is denoted for the body tag. The valid values for the float tag are "left", "right", "none", and "inherit".

I think you can remove the float as you already have set margins to center your content.

Fixed. Thanks! :) Yeah the images will be bright and have a sort of *pop*. Not too much of a pop though, just enough.

Few minor bugs with the ID tags which I've fixed, also applies XML rules and now everything shows as clean and valid. Displays fine too.

Hope it helps. EDIT: Cleaned up the code some more, there is a lot of Br tags......

Both have been serviced by Quad them selves. The Quad 303 was serviced in December 2013, and the Quad 33 was serviced in 1994. <br /> <br /> Both the Quad 33 and 303 have also been serviced by myself. The Quad 33 has had an upgrade kit installed, modifying the power supply to output 16v instead of the less stable 12v that Quads designs were limited to, with it being a 1960's design, capacitors couldn't be manufactured small enough to fit in the casing. <br /> <br /> <img src="imageLocation.jpg" style="width: 400px; height: 225px; float: left; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 40px; margin-right: 20px;" /><img /> <img src="imageLocation.jpg" style="width: 400px; height: 225px; float: left; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-right: 20px;" /><img /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The Phono board and the two output amplifier boards in the 33 have also been upgraded to withstand the new power supply upgrade. All the electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with high quality audio grade Nichicon's. <br /> <br /> Some resistors have also been changed due to tolerances falling below requirements. <br /> <br /> <img src="imageLocation.jpg" style="width: 263px; height: 148px; float: left; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 30px; margin-right: 20px;" /><img /> <img src="imageLocation.jpg" style="width: 263px; height: 148px; float: left; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-right: 20px;" /><img /> <img src="imageLocation.jpg" style="width: 263px; height: 148px; float: left; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-right: 20px;" /><img /> <p style="clear: both;"> <img src="imageLocation.jpg" style="width: 263px; height: 148px; float: left; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 170px; margin-right: 20px;" /><img /> <img src="imageLocation.jpg" style="width: 263px; height: 148px; float: left; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-right: 20px;" /><img /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The benefits of the upgrade are that with there being a higher supplied voltage to the components, bass response has been tightened dramatically, meaning less distortion at higher volumes (depending on the input source). All while keeping that same warm, beautiful Quad sound. <br /> <br /> The output is still 500mv so there's no need to worry about damaging the input of the Quad 303. </p> </p2> <p style="clear: both;"><br /> </p> <div id="description_title"> <div class="divide"> <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="30" width="100%"> <tr> <td valign="top"><hr color="#950000" size="6" /></td> </tr> </table> </div> <p1>A little bit of fact:</p1> </div> <br /> <div id="description"> <p2> The first commercially available transistor featured by Quad was the Quad 50 monoblock released in 1966, following this, the Quad 303 Stereo power amplifier was released to the public in 1967. <br /> <br /> A total of 90,000 Quad 303 Power Amplifiers, 120,000 Quad 33's and 50,000 Quad FM3's have been manufactured <br /> <br /> The first Quad 303, 33 and FM3 for public started with the serial number 1000. Yeah there's a lot of <br> tags... I know it's tacky but it works.  :P

As I understood it, it never really mattered about the tags needing to be closed, but I'll go ahead and fix them anyway for peace of mind.  :)
