External GPU + Current Laptop or New Build

simmojosh

I've recently been looking at beginning PC gaming after a lengthy break after my build became unable to keep up with new games.

I currently use a Dell XPS 13 9370 (16GB ram, 512 SSD and an i7-8550U) as a daily driver for work as well as lighter games that can run on the integrated graphics. I also have a low response time 1080p 60hz that i will be more than happy to game on.

Does anyone know if buying an external graphics solution would be viable? Or does the reduced effectiveness through thunderbolt 3 and the low power CPU make it a better idea to just build from scratch.

I don't have a budget for this build yet just looking into whether external graphics would work.

Thanks for the help.
