Buy a gray market W10 copy off eBay for £3. It's risk free (because paypal) and you can get rid of the watermark.

Aside from that, the builds people are choosing for you are good enough so I won't make another.

For the build you have:

  • The cooler already comes with thermal compound
  • I wouldn't get an MSI motherboard
  • That HDD is horribly overpriced, look at something like this:
    https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jD3H99/seagate-barracuda-4tb-35-5400rpm-internal-hard-drive-st4000dm004
  • You don't need an 850w PSU, and Platinum is considerably more expensive for not a whole lot of reason
  • Don't get an OEM copy of Windows
  • I'd personally look to other keyboards, as I wasn't a fan of the quality of the K70; I found the G.Skill KM780 to be of significantly higher build quality
  • You're spending this kind of money and don't have an SSD. This is a sin

As you can see there are many, many other ways to slice a build. Take a look at some of the builds others have made, with a grain of salt, and rethink your own.

  • If you dont need that kinda storage Id say opt for a lower capacity drive paired with a boot ssd, something like a WD 2tb,
  • The power supply is kinda overkill... by alot.. I mean I guess its the last youll need but I dont think you'd need more than a 500W and gold is usually the highest I go, maybe get a 550W if you really feel like it. Generally its bad when the PSU costs more than the motherboard though, kinda unbalanced.
  • If you aren't using stuff like microsoft word and junk you can just download the free .iso on microsofts website, then use a CMD to run slmgr -rearm to get rid of the stupid notifications and watermark. Theres no real difference
  • Personally Id say a few hundos and get a Gtx 1080, ray tracing really doesn't apply yet (still being adopted) and the 1080 is still a very competent card

I agree with the PSU being overkill, but not your theory on pricing. It's fine if it costs more than the motherboard in quite a few build scenarios, as the PSU can easily travel to many builds down the line. DLSS will provide a real benefit once it's in more titles, so if he's going for something that's a little more future friendly, it makes sense to go with the 2080. The 1080 doesn't make sense when things like the 2060 are capable of almost matching its performance when overclocked, or the 1070Ti.
