NZXT H500 - Temp Issues

Hi All,

I currently have a NZXT H500 (Red and Black). The temperatures in the case are really high for what they should be. I believe this is because of my fan set up (1 exhaust, 1 intake at the front) however I am wondering what would be the best set up for the case.

I have no idea what I am doing, please help.

What is your entire build system spec and configuration?

Also please list exact temperature. "High temperatures" can mean different things to different people.

I agree with @TVwazhere: what are your system specs, your temperatures under which loads and what's your ambient temperature?

The H500 isn't particularly well vented and works with an odd positive pressure system. Considering the circumstances, the case works decently well but not on par with high airflow cases. You can't expect miracles from that case.

The temps aren't low but are perfectly safe.

Are you using the stock case fans but with the top fan moved to the front for intake? Cooling in the H500 is generally better with the stock fans as is in exhaust.

Are you using default motherboard settings?

I am using the default layout for the case fans, Intake at the top and an exhaust fan out of the back.

And yes my motherboard is default settings except I turned my XMP profile on.

The default stock configuration should be exhaust at both the rear and top. Did you flip the top fan?

You also mentioned having a front fan intake. Which fan is that?

You can probably get lower cpu temps by setting core voltage manually instead of leaving it at Auto which tends to use more voltage than necessary. Try starting at 1.2v and test for stability. You can lower voltage from there for lower temps or oc with manual voltage.

I didn't touch the fans they are in the same layout as I got it.

The front intake fan is a fan I took from my old PC Case the NZXT - S340, it more was a troubleshooting for my cooling. Would you suggest taking that out?

Setting voltage on a motherboard is not something I have done before, would it be post to suggest some tutorials on going through this?

Leave the front fan.

You only need to edit the core voltage setting from Auto to 1.2v in the bios. From there, run a stress test with programs like OCCT for stability and temps.

If you want to oc, Tweaktown has a pretty good guide: https://www.tweaktown.com/guides/8481/coffee-lake-overclocking-guide/index3.html

Thank you, I'll give that a go.
