Hello everybody,

First of all, english is not my first language so, I´m sorry for the mistakes.

I just got a Zotec 2080 AMP Edition on a Christmas raffle (I can´t it believe too).

The problem is that my pc is not new and I think the other parts are bottlenecking my GPU.

I can´t get consistent frame rates in games like AC Odyssey and BF5 and other games like Overwatch, Dota 2 and CS-GO I get worst framerate than my GTX 970.

The system I have is the following:

Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 ( now is the RTX 2080)

i5 4960k

MSI Z97 Gaming 5

16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz

Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze

Samsung EVO 970 M.2 SSD

WB Blue 1TB HHD

My idea is to upgrade to a i5-9600k, 16GB DDR4 2400MHz, Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X and I´m not sure if I need a better PSU. Will this config be enough?

Thanks guys!

That would be a good combo for your new graphics card. The power supply is sufficient, so happy hunting.

Although I think an i5 8600k and a Z370 board is a little more economical.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I'd go for an i7 8700k and a Z370 board if it's in budget. An i5 8600k is a good alternative but I would still try to go for an i7.

I'd look at getting a higher end power supply for the longevity and quality of it. Otherwise, upgrade looks fine for what you want

I'd get a different PSU, you have one of the older generation Corsair CX PSU's so I'd upgrade it to a 750W since Nvidia recommends at LEAST a 650W PSU for the RTX 2080. As for the CPU, yes the 9600k is a great option and with 16 gigs of DDR4+a 9600k you should see no bottle necks. Though, I'd recommend trying to get 2666 Mhz RAM instead of 2400 otherwise it all looks awesome.

I should also note that BFV and Assasins creed are super cpu heavy and wants lots of cores so the 9600k may still struggle a little. Assasins creed is actually insane how hard it is on the cpu with it actually scaling above 8 cores and 16 threads.

That's some super slow memory, get 3200 CL16 atleast, that's pretty much the cut-off point in terms of value. CL14 gets too expensive.

And buying an entirely new platform for 2 extra cores doesn't seem worth it. I'd just go with Ryzen+ (2600X/2700X).

Games like Far Cry 5 don't even run that great on these i5's. It stutters.
