I am in the process of building my first PC which is a ryzen build, and I’m having a hard time deciding on which CPU to go for. Price isn’t an issue but obviously cheaper is better. I’ll be gaming in 1080 and doing only web surfing and maybe a school paper or two.

Is there any real gain to be had for going 2700x? I can see me not having to upgrade for a bit longer and I’ll have more usable cores and faster overall by going to the 2700x.

Im looking at the 2600 and not the x because I’ve read that if I choose to OC any 2600 I should choose the regular and not the X.

I will probably end up messing with the OCing on whichever one I choose.

2700x - 308$

2600 - 164$

2600 easily, the 2700/2700X are a lot more expensive for not that much more gaming performance.

The 2600 should be fine for you. Not much point buying the 2600X unless OC'ing performance is your number 1 priority.

A 2700X is overkill for your needs anyway.

What do you mean if OCing performance is my #1 priority? I plan on OCing the chip anyways but not be getting too technical I don’t think.

2600X has slightly better OC'ing ability than the 2600.

I'd still recommend the 2600 because it's much better value than the 2600X.

Right now I'd go for the cheaper and then save for Ryzen 3000 wich should run on your new board when it comes out...

for your needs, i would seriously look into the 2400g and run off the APU. What kind of games are you running/wanting to run? I spent $80 on a 2200g and play gta v 1080p medium settings in the 40fps range. 2400g supposedly has a 30% increase in Gpu power

If you live near a Micro Center, the 1600 has dropped to $100. Overclock it a bit (comes with a Wraith Spire!), and you should be good for a while. It's only slightly behind the 2600 in games, and your wallet won't hurt as much when the 3rd gen parts drop later this year.
