graphics card as audio device ???

If it has HDMI you should be able to output audio over HDMI to the monitor.

I don't think that crummy card has HDMI if its a 550 and what not.

HDMI carries digital audio.

There is no need for any kind of sound card or processor.

 

gtx550s have HDMI.

Some monitors even have a mini jack output so you could plug speakers/headphones into that.

 

You can even buy something like this. I couldn't find any that have 5.1 mini jack but there's no need to ever buy an audio card unless you want to input audio. I think intle GPU even had built in digital audio.
