Asrock z370 pro4 +i9 9900k problem

So here we have a build, that is working, but not as expected.

Be quite silent base 801 (3x140mm fans)

Corsair rm550x

Asrock z370 pro4

I9 9900k

Be quite shadow rock 2 cpu cooler

Ddr4 16gb 2666mhz cl15 kingston hyperx

Evga gtx1070 sc

Ssd: samsung evo 860 500gb, toshiba tr150 480 gb

Wifi card on pcie

Rme hdsp 9652 on legacy pci

Initially i had i7 8700k in this setup, all working perfect. Swapped for i9 9900k with latest bios 3.30. Aaand i got a BSOD every time. Random bsods.

Default bios setting doesn't work like it should for i9.  Lowering manually processor speed in bios oc menu to max 4.2 ghz on all cores and bclk 100 helps.

But i can't get more than this numbers. Wtf? I9 in default turbo should get 4.7ghz on all cores. Performance test also showed cpu performance lower than usual for i9 = 15000+, instead of 21000+

Temperatures of cpu and mb are fine.  30-36 celsius in idle. Cpu in cinebench 80 celsius short peak.

First i thought psu is not enough. Pulled out every component. leaving i9, one 8gb ram stick, system ssd alone.

Even in oc till 5ghz, 550 watt should be enough, as i9 5ghz is about 250-270 watts. Sooo, loaded bios defaults... No result... Bsod every time till cpu frequency lowering to 4.2ghz.

Where should i start?

Change motherboard, psu or have i "bad" i9 chip?

Asrock z370 pro4 have 10 phases, but those really are (4*2)+2. Now I'm thinking motherboards vrm not getting right voltage for i9?  Can it be?

VRM cooking will be my guess.

thermal shutdown most likely. Hardware unboxed did a review on cheap Z370 boards and the Pro4 did shutdown when there's a (I forgot 8700k or 9900k) in it.

I agree wiht @Jurrunio. Pro4 has limited or no heatsinks on the VRMs, and that's a terrible idea when running a power hungry chip like the 9900k.

Will See...looking to try new MB for 9900K

Any thoughts?

in theory yes. my only doubts - temperatures on cpu and mb sensors were OK all the time. maybe BIOS , VRM issues? all around that

What do you think about

Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro ?

Is it good for stock i9 9900K turbo boosts?

Not interested in extreme overclocking.

any z390 gigabyte board will be, elite and up for the 9900k preferred, keep memory under ddr3600 for the elite, you could also tune ur 9900k a little bit, 1.2v 4.5ghz is achievable on most 9900k, and the load is about 90w there, maybe the pro4 can handle it? worth a try before buying a new board.

isn't this why Z390 was required for i9 parts?

SFF Time N-ATX V2 - Gigabyte X570 I Aorus Pro WIFI - AMD Ryzen 9 5800X3D - Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 4090 - LG C2 OLED 42"

No I have the z390 Pro4, but I'll be testing the VRMs now, as I do not trust them any longer... I have the exact same symptoms, so it's very likely to be a problem.
