How do I copy all data from one drive to another?

PerryT78

Hi everyone,

My current 2TB hard drive is making some horrible noises (clicking and crackling) so I have purchased a new 1TB Seagate hard drive.

I want to make a complete mirror copy of the old hard drive onto the new one so I don't lose game saves, work, etc...

Is there a way to completely mirror the drive through windows or do I need a third party program?

Thanks

Just conntect both and drag and drop. If it's a OS drive use a drive cloning program or just reinstall your OS

Setup:

Name: Ryzentosh

 AMD Ryzen 5 1600

Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 570 8GB

MSI B350 PC Mate

Corsair Spec-01

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 2400mhz

Kingston A400 120GB

Seagate Barracuda 2TB

If you want to do a literal mirror, you'd have to clone it, assuming you're not using more than 1TB of data on the 2TB drive.

Otherwise you can copy and paste normally. Or if you want something a bit better, try the robocopy command.

Like these other guys said, it kinda depends on what's on the old drive. If it's an OS drive, you'll have to clone the whole thing or use a data migration tool. Other than that, you should just be able to copy and paste the files to the other drive by connecting the two. It may take a while depending on the transfer speed but it should work

There's a software called Macrium Reflect that will do a precise bit-for-bit clone, if that's what you're looking for (OS and all). It's free and clean, I've used it.

You may need a third party tool. Based on my experience, the third party tools can do this work very well. Sound like your drive has physical issues, bad sector probably. So, it's better to make the backup as soon as possible.

For the clone tool, you can try MiniTool partition wizard, easeus backup, minitool shadowmaker, aomei backup tool, Marcium reflect...Some can copy your drive directly to another one, some can help you back up the drive to a file.

That’s not the best idea. The drive contains hidden files that do not copy
