Open up a couple browser tabs, open up a benchmark, open up a game and then open task manager to see your ram usage. I doubt you'd be over 12gb used.

 

The industry will transition to ddr5 before you'll need more than 16 gb ram. Speculation points to 2021 when motherboard makers will include slots for ddr5. Invest in 32gb+ then.
