I'm building a PC in Australia and I want to not if I should invest in a Ryzen CPU just in case I want to get into stream and recording and video and photo editing.  I know I will be using it for video editing and photo editing.  What is everyone's thoughts.  Should I just go with Intel or go with Ryzen and take advantage of the extra threads and cores.  Also need some suggestions on which Ryzen and Intel CPU to use for this build

Hey man. Whats your budget or do you not have one? Also I have a Ryzen 7 1700x and it seems to be worth the price so far even though i don't do really demanding things. Also are you doing anything on ur PC other than gaming?

Sorry I knew I forgot something.  My budget for the CPU is $400-500 if I get better performance I'm willing to pay more but I prefer not to

I want to use it for streaming,  gaming,  recording and editing. I need it to be able to do two of these at once

You could get a ryzen build along with a nice x470 board running then buy Zen 2 CPU's when the get released.

That can be done, AMD does a great job at multi-tasking and an 8-core processor can do wonders if you want to do alot at once.

For $500 AUD, you can barely get a CPU, MoBo, and RAM, let alone a CPU that can multitask real-time encode. You can build a bare bones system for $500 in the US, but even that would be a fairly low level gaming system and would be a pretty poor streaming PC. Just a forewarning.

I assume, by this statement, that he means that he's willing to pay 400-500 for the CPU.

A high-end Ryzen CPU should do you well. Overall, they're just a better bang-per-buck dollar than intel right now.

Ryzen is totally worth getting. Especially with a budget like that.

Can you clarify this, you mean your budget for the CPU and CPU alone is between $400 and $500?

If that's the case, go Ryzen anyway. Intel is dead.

Listen. Get the 1700X for now since it's cheap (only if you really need the cores) with a top X470 mobo like the Gaming 7 or Taichi or Crosshair (I have the Gaming 7/Crosshair VII) and then upgrade to next gen Ryzen in a few months when it's released. You wont regret it! They WILL be on par with high end Intel. Even so, Intel isn't worth the premium cost, IMO.

Well if you go Ryzen (which we all agree you should), you kinda have 3 options:

  1. Wait for Zen 2
  2. Buy a 2700/2700X
  3. Buy a cheaper CPU now like a 2600 or maybe 1700X/1600X, then upgrade to Zen 2 when it comes out.

Yea, I honestly recommend the 2600 over the 1700X and then upgrade. This way you still have all the horsepower you need and the 2600 is actually a good chip. 1700X if you really need the 2 extra cores.

Alright I will have a look at that. Will I need to upgrade the mobo when the new CPU's come out. Also if it is only a few months away I might just wait cause I'm in no rush to get this thing built so I will wait and I will check it out

So yea, just wait because the X570 boards will probably be a little better. Even though the high end x470 right now are more than enough.

You won't need to upgrade the motherboard. As for waiting, sample chips should be out soon, if they aren't already, so I would expect performance videos in the coming weeks. It'll be easier to make a decision then (assuming AMD hasn't limited what people can say about it).

Alright well I will keep an eye out for those videos. I might wait and see if the price for the top x470 boards go down. Thanks for this info.  I can use it to plan out the rest of my build
