Can I comfortably run 3 monitors from an i3 8100?

I'm looking at doing a 3 monitor build (no gaming, some light graphics software [Inkscape] use) for a friend, and was wondering if an i3 8100 paired with an Asus Prime H310M-A motherboard would happily support three screens? The motherboard has three outputs, and Intel's i3 8100 spec. page suggests that it can run three monitors, but I'd like to be sure.

Yes, you will be perfectly fine running 3 monitors for productivity tasks.

Yes, but H310 boards aren't that good.

 

I'd recommend going with a B360 board at least.

What does he have at the moment? since the usage requirements are not high, might be worth getting a ddr3 system with a basic gpu and saving a huge chunk of change.

Only has a slow old laptop at the moment. He wants a new build.

Why not a Ryzen 3/5 and a B450 motherboard and a low end vid card...Would probably work out cheaper too.

That sounds like a great candidate for a Ryzen 3 2200G build. Don't know about others, but to me Intel's graphics drivers are the worst - the problems that I went through with my HD4400 in my laptop - from absolutely corrupted driver after Windows update (it took me month to finally repair it) to 59Hz default refresh rate, control center crashing while attempting to change settings... AMD drivers have their flaws, but they are really getting better at a faster pace than Intel's. Although for AMD iGPUs, the drivers come out quarterly, not after every hotfix as is the case for the standard driver package (for non-iGPU cards). Should be fine, hotfixes typically contain game optimizations.

 

To answer the actual question: Ryzen 3 2200G can definitely run 3 monitors - technically that Vega integrated card supports 6 displays, actual number depends on the motherboard.

A Ryzen 3 2200G with a B450 motherboard is probably what your friend wants. Solid performance for a below 100 $ chip
