What should I upgrade?

Hydra453

I'm either going to upgrade my CPU & Motherboard, possibly to an i7 8700K or i7 9700K and a motherboard that's compatible,

OR upgrade my graphics card.

I am looking for the best possible upgrade for FPS. I play Fortnite and Overwatch very competitively. I also make and edit videos using Sony Vegas. What would benefit me the most? A new CPU with a new motherboard, or new graphics card?

MY RIG

MOBO: ASUS Prime B250M-A

CPU: Intel Core i5 6400

GPU: Galax GTX 1080 EXOC SNIPER White RGB

RAM: Corsair vengeance 16GB DDR4

PSU: Corsair VS650 650W

SSD: Seagate 128gb ssd

HDD(s): Barracuda 500gb HDD + Barracuda 1TB HDD

I don't see why you'd touch your gpu unless you really need the extra fps for some 4k monitor

An old quad core ain't much anymore. Grab a Ryzen CPU it'll be a nice economical upgrade.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

You have a really nice 1080, and there's no reason to upgrade that if you need CPU power to meet your criteria..

If you're willing to wait for this week, AMD will be giving teasers and possibly announcing Zen 2.

I posted about the 9700k and 8700k a little bit ago and to sum it up, if you have the option and aren't really constrained by money, then get the 9700k. 8 cores! Pair it with a good Z390 Aorus motherboard from Gigabyte.

what if they don't. what if they don't say anything about zen 2 at all. they could be announcing new server stuff and not mention consumer stuff at all

Get a new CPU and mobo. Either a Ryzen 5 2600 or R7 2700, then in the future you could upgrade to a newer chip in a year or two.

I'm fairly confident they're at the least, giving more insight into Zen 2. They don't have to announce it and I personally don't think they will. It'll build up more hype, though AMD has fucked up with building hype (vega lel).
