Is my PC balanced?

Hello smart people on the LMG forum! I just built a "Gaming" PC and wanted to see if you guys and girls think it was a good list. (BTW: I already built it, so my thoughts and soon to be upgraded list is below)

CPU Cooler: NZXT - Kraken M22 Liquid CPU Cooler  
Motherboard: Asus - PRIME Z390-P ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  
Memory: Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory  
Storage: Inland - Professional 120 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  
Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1060 3GB 3 GB Dual Video Card  
Case: NZXT - H500i (White) ATX Mid Tower Case  
Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  

 

Okay. So my first thing I plan to switch out is my NZXT Kraken M22 for a Kraken X42. The radiator mounted pump design to get around the AsusTEK 120mm patent is silly and in all of my research just proves to hurt performance, and doesn't allow me to customize my fan/pump curves through CAM. First to go. No more storage space, because I have a 5TB external laying around. Maybe get a M.2 from the same company (SUPER cheap at Micro Center) and use Macrium Reflect to copy. Next in the order, another 2 4gb sticks of ram, or totally new 2 8gb sticks. Need to keep that white style, though. White, black and RGB build. Maybe possible an upgrade to the 1060 6gb, but not necessary. Last in my order, sooner or later, far off, maybe a 9600k which will last me a lifetime, I'm sure.

Personally, I would just get the 6gb 1060 now and skip getting the 3gb. Saves you money in the long run.

If you already have the 3gb 1060 buying the 6gb would be a huge waste of money. Paying 200+ dollars for 10% performance uplift is just awful. It's unfortunate you already built the pc because you could have gotten a cheaper motherboard and opted for a 1060 6gb or a 580 8gb.

If you get an AIO, spend at least $80 on one. 120MM AIOs are a waste of money (unless you're doing an SFF build where there is not enough space for a better-performing air cooler). I personally recommend Corsair. I would also upgrade to Ryzen instead of another Intel platform.

Don´t get the 3 GB 1060 few bucks more and you have a 6 GB one with more power.

Woah! Thanks for the quick replies everyone! Yeah, I already built it. I may of made a silly decision going with the 3GB card, but live and learn. Kelvinhall05, Definitely. My first upgrade will be to the Kraken X42 which is 1 140MM fan, or for about 20 bucks more (so most likely) the Kraken X52. Besides from that, anything else you think needs upgrading, or any specific thoughts on my drive upgrade thought? Thanks

In the future I might go AMD, but right now I would like to try to stay with the Intel/Nvidia crew.

i5 8400 and 3gb 1060 are good for now, not for the near future, that's all.

OK. Sorry if I annoy you by asking again, but this will be the last time. After the AIO and drive, what would you say would be the most important item to upgrade? CPU, GPU, or maybe something else? SLI is sorta out of the question though because the PZ390-P only supports CF.

what annoys me and I guess most people as well is that you don't plan your builds before buying

You have a locked cpu. An AIO is a complete waste of money. I would upgrade your ram instead.

Yeah, the fact that it is locked is a bit annoying, and I could of went 212 Evo or Cryorig H7 but again just futureproofing. As 17030644 proved though, I could of done that a bit better. Thanks for the reply again!

next target will be the graphics card, not cooler.

 

the problem with your buying decisions are overhyped liquid cooler (the M22 is really weak, the X42 doesnt beat big air coolers that are much cheaper), a board that's not good for overclocking even with 8600k ( @seoz used the Z370-P with 8600k I believe and hated that board, the Z390-P is essentially the same board). Cheap SSDS like that could die within a year or last as long as more common SSDs, since their controllers vary in lifespan (a lottery, so to say). Also, being DRAM-less they arent as responsive as SSDs could be. AMD's RX 570 performs the same as the 1060 3gb, cost less in most of the world, and comes with at least 4gb memory.

I don't hate the Z370-P, but I don't like it either.

 

Any Asus board ending in P is essentially a bottom of the barrel board with minimal features and it shows with the pricing of the boards. Mine got my 8600K to 5.2GHz but it doesn't mean the Z370-P is a good pickup. Would've definitely picked up something else.

I don't hate the Z370-P, but I don't like it either.

The Asus Prime-Z390-P isn't the best board

My SSD isn't the best option due to manufacturing shortcomings (possibly)

AMD GPUs have better value and more memory

If I stayed Nvidia, then the 6GB version should be my next upgrade.

If you already have a 3GB its not a huge upgrade. But if you can still return the 3 Gb for full price and get a 6Gb yes or maybe a 580 (depends on where you live)
