WIn10 task manager not showing hard drive letters in order in Performance tab.

Turtle Rig

As you can see C ,, should be on disk 0 ,, notice how its not in order.  Drive C should be first one.  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

It just does that, don't think there is a fix tbh

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

disk numbers are assigned on boot, and really don't matter. You can't change this

If you want them in order use resource monitor and sort by drive letter.

Well, you don't decide and Microsoft doesn't decide. It is the motherboard that decides with your drive controller.

Drive letter is a Windows concept (well DOS.. hence why it starts at C:\ and not A:\), the reality of thing is that drive letter was just made to make drive identification easier. But the reality of things, things are identified differently. If you use Linux based OS, for example, drive/folder browsing will hit you hard in the face especially if you don't use the GUI and use the Terminal (command line) due to the contrast of not having this simplification. The down side of this simplification is that you don't work with the real thing, and you have cases like the one you have, or Windows Setup, or taking one of the drive out and plugging it into another system, drive letter don't exists or changes.

The linux simplification is that everything is just a file and the hard disk physical file /dev/disk0s1 is mounted on /media/*LABEL* folder by the file manager  like MacOS does in /Volumes, well if they have a label actually is just like windows, if they don't if I don't remember wrong it's just called on the file manager like the actual name of the device + the disk size and "removable" followed by an USB icon and without going into /media they are just shown like a folder on the left sidebar + desktop + "File Systems" always on the left sidebar

Anyway isn't that just the physical order of SATA devices? If you like to swap them, you should swap the SATA data cable for the Disk 0 with the Disk 2

Thanks for response.  My C is a M.2 and not a sata connection.  It's ok I will just live with it.
