You should first try out the different switches since everyone prefers something different.

Stop recommending keyboards over 100, there's a budget for a reason.

Any of the cm sorm keyboards are a good option. The trigger is pretty noice and I think it's in your budget :)

What are the differences between the different keys and how many different kinds are there?

There are linear switches (no tactile feedback), tactile switches, clicky switches and non clicky switches. There are also different kinds of the same switches which have different actuation forces. The main switches are reds, (non-tactile and non clicky) blacks, (heavier reds), browns (tactile, non-clicky) blue (tactile, clicky), greens (less common, heavier blues). There are more, but they're not very common.

Different switches tend to be good for different things. I actually have a K95 with red switches for gaming and a Ducky Shine 3 with Browns for typing. It comes down to personal preference though.

Thanks for the great explanation, how should I "test" them. Is there a store I can goto and try different keys?

frys has a good set up of keyboards if you ahve one near you. IF you go with coolermaster (I would I love coolermaster keyboards) you can buy one of the switch testers and get $15 credit on their site when you buy ANY of their keyboards.

Just find which key switch you like the most.

I heard/read/saw somewhere where it seemed quite prevalent everyone believed that G710+ and K70 were trash as well as their key caps.

I would only suggest CM Storm, Filco, and Ducky.

If you're fine with a TKL layout I'd suggest you to buy a QFR.

If you'd like to test the most common CHERRY MX mechanical switches, you can obtain a key switch tester from our official Cooler Master Store at http://www.cmstore-usa.com/mechanical-key-switch-demo-board/. It costs $15 and will also give you a $15 discount on the purchase of a mechanical keyboard from our store.

The key switch demo has Red, Black, Blue, Green, Brown, and Clear switches. Once you decide on a switch type, you can peruse our selection of mechanical keyboards. We have quite a few models that are under $100.
