What to do with spare pc parts?

Msuni

So I bought a pre-built pc around 2 years ago and have upgraded since. So now I have a GTX 970, i5 6500, 8gb ram and a motherboard (can't remember the model etc) spare.

What can I do with these parts other than just sell them. I was thinking of just building a 2nd PC but it wouldn't really have a use because I have my main pc.

Depends on what you do with your PC.

A streamer might use a secondary PC to take the heavy software load off their main PC and to a secondary PC to encode the footage. Or a video editor might use a secondary PC to render videos on, so they can still edit videos on their main PC. Same with 3D model makers.

You may want to run a NAS on it (keep in mind your CPU wont support ECC memory though), or a different type of server (web server or whatever).

you could fold on it, mining isn't worth it anymore, you can give it to someone, run simulations, accelerate a workload with it, many things are possible with a machine that keepable

I gave my old pc to someone as a gift to a friend who needed one.

All of the above, especially what @LukeSavenije said. Folding is awesome.

Or maybe just sell the parts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

75% of what I say is sarcastic

So is the rest probably

You could sell them, but I never would. I'll be building a second PC in a few days from my spare parts as a PC I take too friends houses as I don't really want to take around my expensive main PC. I will also be using this PC for my virtual machines and testing out potentially virus infected things. We also have a NAS, just using spare parts. And we have a couple media PCs from spare parts.

You can never go wrong with a spare PC.

I generally sell my spare parts.

I've built a pfSense before as well, it did draw just enough energy from the wall to make me get rid of it.

It’s means you download a program made by MIT or something that tries to figure out how cancer works.
